I have shortlisted 3 names. This will be my first DD and first child.

Nyla-Jade (my favourite)
Olivia (too popular)
Eleanor (mum's middle name)

Thanks

I like Eleanor the best. Lots of nickname potential.

lisaro · 08/02/2012 14:35

Eleanor is lovely, Olivia is nice but popular - Nyla-Jade? Errr I'll just say no.

MerryMarigold · 08/02/2012 14:36

Eleanor. It's a fantastic name biased.

Poss Nyla. But DEFINITELY not the 'dash Jade' bit

Purestcocoa · 08/02/2012 14:44

Thanks! Okay what about Nyla on its own? I was considering before and I added Jade to it yesterday.

So:
Nyla
Olivia
Eleanor

I should add that DP wants Adanna as middle name, but I could put another name before it if sounds funny.

I still like Eleanor best!

lisaro · 08/02/2012 14:52

Nyla on its own is ok. Adanna?

lisaro · 08/02/2012 14:53

With Marigold on this. Eleanor is lovely.

Purestcocoa · 08/02/2012 15:03

Lisaro: Adanna is a cultural name and it means father's daughter. It blew Alannah off the shortlist :(

Thanks! I will play around with nicknames for Eleanor.

Ellie, Elle come to mine. But it's so pretty unabbreviated

manicinsomniac · 08/02/2012 23:02

I like Nyla best

Actually think Nyla Jade is cute. I'd avoid the hyphen (mine has been the curse of my life) but it has a nice ring to it.

Stellan · 09/02/2012 13:37

Definitely NOT Nyla-Jade although Nyla is fine. What does it mean? I just know it as the name of Britney Spears' restaurant...

You may also like Adriana, Alaina, Angelina, Ariana, Emilia, Fiona, Jada, Keira, Lana, Leah, Leta, Lila, Lydia, Lyla, Mira, Naomi, Nola, Nora, Talia, Viola, Willa or Zora if you decide Olivia is too popular.

Personally, I would choose Eleanor - it is a good, solid name and will serve your daughter well throughout her life. Eleanor is lovely - just be aware that she may be one of quite a few little Ellies if you choose that as a nickname. You could go with Eleanora and use Nora or perhaps even Nell as a nickname.

randomimposter · 09/02/2012 13:41

Eleanor is a LOVELY name; Nell is my favourite NN.

randomimposter · 09/02/2012 13:41

Nyla is NewYorkLosAngeles to me?

LadyWellian · 09/02/2012 13:46

If you're set on a middle name that starts with 'A' you might want to avoid first names that end with an 'uh' sound, as all of yours do.

The 'Jade' bit fixes that to an extent, but with Adanna you then have two 'd's very close to each other.

Also I've never seen Nyla with that spelling - it's usually Naila IME.

Purestcocoa · 10/02/2012 12:05

Nyla is a Greek name and it means 'cloud of champion' .i.e. winner.

I think Nyla and Naila are pronounced differently. Ny sounds like My. I would pronounce Naila as Neigh-la.. If that makes sense.

I'm not keen on Ellie as a nn- I like Elle and Nora though.

You can also spell Nyla as Nila or Nylah.

We called our first dd Nyla it's a fab name, it's easy for her to learn and spell.

Good luck

Nyla too similar to nylon. Olivia and Eleanor both fine, or Jade on its own.

Jade Olivia
Eleanor Jade
Olivia Jade
