I LOVE the name of my ds, but he has it. I don't like any other. Sad

This child is going to be nameless.......

Scott and Todd both work in almost every language. and they are at least inoffensive! Todd is growing on me by the minute! but if the other one is Ross, hen Ross and Todd begins to sound unimaginative. How can you NOT like Erik? works in most European languages and has a hint of the adventurer about it! Erik the Viking!!

babyincubator · 05/02/2012 17:45

You get my full sympathies; boys names are so darn tricky. In fact, I think we might pinch the middle name of DS1 and give it as a first name to DS2. But, that feels really, really lame!

suburbandream · 05/02/2012 17:50

We were still arguing about DS1's name on the way to the registrar's office! Then we had another boy ...

StarlightMcKenzie · 05/02/2012 18:35

Lol. Thanks all. Like Rowan but then all males in our house will be Mr R which won't be good for receiving post.

Ds is named after one of my brothers. The other two have idylls with their names so if I choose one the other will give my mum grief for years.

Grrrrrrr. It's so hard. There are some on those list that are okay but DH won't agree. My favourite is Peter but DH absolutely refuses.

I can help you.

Ross was my no 1 choice for DS1.

DH had other ideas.

Bruce

Milo

Lucas

Hamish

James

Todd

David (Dave and Ross go well together IMO)

silverfrog · 05/02/2012 18:41

oh, I like Peter too. but dh not keen.

same for Eric/erik.

I don't know whether boy/girl, so maybe this won't end up a problem, but then have an issue with girls names as I aid before... humph.

StarlightMcKenzie · 05/02/2012 19:22

Are you going to find out SF?

OP posts:
silverfrog · 05/02/2012 19:33

Still not sure. I didn't for the girls. dh knew for dd1 (but didn't want to know for dd2 if I didn't as he found it really hard)

On the one hand it would be useful to let the dds know - managing expectations etc - but then on the other a whole load of expectations crop up if you do know. And would prefer it to be just family who knows if we do, but dd2 will blab to everyone!

StarlightMcKenzie · 05/02/2012 19:40

Lol. I was planning to keep it secret but then realised the kids wouldn't.

I wanted ds in particular to be prepare because he was convince all siblings are sisters iyswim and a boy would have thrown him. They weren't supposed to tell us but we got it out of them plus it was obvious.

StarlightMcKenzie · 05/02/2012 19:42

But I'm glad we didn't because Dh would refuse to discuss names until birth and we'd have even less time to get one.

Jonathan. Problem solved!

BlastOff · 05/02/2012 19:49

Otto
Alexander
Arthur
James
Adam
Sebastian
Dominic

Any good?

HavePatience · 05/02/2012 19:49

Rowan is gorgeous. No worries about the post! That's only trivial. I love Rowan :)

BlastOff · 05/02/2012 19:51

(we had the same problem. I like ds2's name now but took three weeks to decide upon it. We called him different names for a day or so and tried them out to see if they fitted him - and then dh made an appointment at the registrars so there was a deadline!)

BlastOff · 05/02/2012 19:52

Reuben
Edward
George
Felix
Dexter

StarlightMcKenzie · 05/02/2012 19:54

Alexander is great but problematic with family history.

Dd already calls it AlexBabyZander, which is cute!

WMDinthekitchen · 05/02/2012 20:06

Could you make a name using part of your name, part of DH's name, part of DS1's name? How about a place name (Aston for e.g., although not perhaps Chipping Sodbury). You could go through the index in an atlas. I once knew a Milan (pronounced My-lan, not as in the Italian place name). Let us know what you choose!

Showmethemhappyfeet · 05/02/2012 20:13

Aww go with DD and call him Xander, awesome name!!

ItsOkItsJustMyBreath · 05/02/2012 20:16

I'm sensing a Scottish vibe here.....

How about Fitz?

Shame about the problem with R as Robert is one of my faves.

johnnycomelurky · 05/02/2012 20:20

I like:

Leo
Damon

and that's it-I'm screwed if we have another boy!

Good luck!

johnnycomelurky · 05/02/2012 20:23

Oh yeah, Xander is great. I can't use Alexander as it's already in the family but a great name and Xander is an ace nn. Go for it!

DorothyGherkins · 05/02/2012 20:29

I couldnt find any boys names I liked with either of my pregnancies. Fortunately they were both girls, maybe yours will be a DD too.

silverfrog · 05/02/2012 20:33

oh, we can find out no problem - they offerd at the 12 week scan (Shock, with 95% accuracy apparently) but it was just me there, so I said no Grin. I'm really not convinced I want to know.

dd1 would be ok, I think. I suppose it helps that she alreasy has (thanks to having half siblings) a brother and sisters. but not sure she 'sees' the older ones as siblings, iyswim.

it's dd2 that is the problem. everything is absolutely black and white with her - she is convinced a girl, both from preference and because she only has sisters (despite having a brother Hmm). but then I'm not sure I can take months of ehr telling me that a boy will like football, not like dancing, will be a stereotypical boy, etc.

oh well, we'll see. dh convinced it's a boy anyway, as having wildly different pregnancy from the last 2.

anyway, names. hmm.

Alistair?
James.
mind blank again.

StarlightMcKenzie · 05/02/2012 21:06

It really can't be any Alexander derivative. Cause mucho problemo. My nephew is called Milan Grin. Peter might have been okay but it was my DF's name and he passed away less than a year ago so DH funny about it. Famy name in his side was Bernard which just isn't going to happen. I like Digory but don't think Digory would Grin

I also quite like Oak, but can't imagine teacher using it.
