I love this name but no Irish ancestors on either side. Does it matter do you think?

No, I don't think it matters Smile The only thing I would check is that people can pronounce it where you live.

cazboldy · 02/02/2012 20:17

oh go on - i love that name too Smile

randomimposter · 02/02/2012 20:52

It's DS's middle name and we have no Irish ancestory. Go ahead!

PopcornBiscuit · 02/02/2012 22:52

I'd spell it Malachi (like in the Bible) if I wasn't Irish.

wildpoppy · 02/02/2012 23:55

I always think Malachy is pronounced Mal-lackey though which is what I like whereas Malachi is pronounced Malach-eye.

I love it but would also spell as 'Malachi'

DaenerysTargaryenButCallMeDany · 02/02/2012 23:58

ahh I see, is the irish version a different pronunciation?

ThePoorMansBeckySharp · 03/02/2012 03:32

I wouldn't have thought so and I love Malachy.

3boysgirlontheway · 03/02/2012 05:30

You won't find to many Irish people actually using it, not hugely popular over here.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 03/02/2012 06:56

My Irish in laws said they would disown me if I used Malachy, I really like it. But it seems to be very trendy in London at the moment.
