Rafferty, Edward or Wilfred?

Please help - my husband has near given up on baby discussion and is despairing. My shortlist is Rafferty, Edward or Wilfred - what does anyone think of these names - open to more suggestions if you can think of any similar? Not long to go now and feeling quite unsettled about indecisiveness! Thanks so much

Rafferty - unusual and lovely. Edward is a bit dull, god middle name. To me Wilfred is desparately old-fashioned, in a not becoming fashionable again in a hurry sort of way, likewise Wilf. You could be the one to start the resurgence though.

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 02/02/2012 15:40

Since you ask Wink If you must have one of those names, go for Edward. Personally I wouldn't use any of them.

comedaygoday · 02/02/2012 15:51

Edward: like this. Good, strong, classic name.
Wilfred: is ok. Getting quite popular though.
Rafferty: Don't like. Seems too faddy and try too hard.

Montsti · 02/02/2012 15:52

Edward and Rafferty are nice names IMO, however I don't get the Wilfred thing at all...find it a bit wet and old-fashioned but, having read a lot of these threads seems surprisingly popular...

chocolatchaud · 02/02/2012 15:57

Love Edward, quite like Rafferty (but wouldn't use it myself), and pretty much detest Wilfred.

Raphael, Frederick?

DanJARMouse · 02/02/2012 15:58

DH loves Rafferty..... he wanted me to call our DS Rafferty..... except our surname is McCafferty!

If it doesnt clash with the surname, I would vote Rafferty!

frankies69 · 02/02/2012 16:03

I have to say I am not keen on them but I wouldn't say I dislike them!! Grin
I posted asking what peoples opinions of my DD name was and got some quite comments, any others on your shortlist?? Middle name ideas?? Does it have to be old fashioned??

DramaInPyjamas · 02/02/2012 16:16

Rafferty has always been a favourite of mine.

gazzalw · 02/02/2012 16:18

It's a no-brainer - Edward is so much more classy and timeless than the other two!

othersideofchannel · 02/02/2012 17:55

Rafferty is the only one I like - classic, cool and not overused.

I find Edward quite dull, sorry and don't like the sound of Wilfred.

Rhubarbgarden · 02/02/2012 18:37

Edward. I dislike Rafferty. Wilfred is ok.

ShowOfHands · 02/02/2012 18:39

I love Rafferty. I have a Raphael who is called Raffy/Rafa/Raf/Rafe. Is fairly similar.

I like Wilf too.

And Edward actually.

Any/all of them. Grin

PercyFilth · 02/02/2012 18:40

Rafferty is a name that I might consider for an Irish setter.

titan · 02/02/2012 18:41

I like them all. Edward is my fave. Would worry that Rafferty would be seen as a bit pretentious although it's a nice name.

patchworkchick · 02/02/2012 18:44

Like Rafferty, my nephew is Edward and called Ned.

SunnilyEnough · 02/02/2012 18:46

Rafferty is lovely.
I like Edward and Ed but hate Eddie.
Wilf is cool, not so keen on Wilfred. But I think this is the most trying-too-hard name of the three.

Mrsrobertduvall · 02/02/2012 19:34

Rafferty is awful.
Wilfred is uber trendy.
Edward traditional if a bit dull.

halecromp · 02/02/2012 19:41

Love Wilfred, quite like Edward, dislike Rafferty x

MrsJohnDeere · 02/02/2012 19:52

Love Edward and Wilfred.
Rafferty is awful.

heronsfly · 02/02/2012 19:54

I love Rafferty, Edward is always good, not keen on Wilfred. Grin

babyincubator · 03/02/2012 12:45

Thank you everyone; some real opinions out there! Any more to come? My favourite is Rafferty but DH not so keen... although he would budge if I really wanted! What do you think? x

Edward - a lovely classic name.

Wilfred too old man, Rafferty too frilly.

gazzalw · 03/02/2012 14:35

They are quite different types of names aren't they? Who likes Edward and Wilfred? Think Edward is classless, timeless and a noble name. Think you can only get away with Rafferty or Wilfred if you are terribly pukka - think one of David Frost's sons is called Wilfred......

tammytoby · 03/02/2012 15:07

What is 'pukka' Confused - something good or bad..?

Personally I find Wilfred and Edward both a little dull and old fashioned and would choose Rafferty myself (not sure whether I'm pukka though..).

seeker · 03/02/2012 15:10

Every second baby boy seems to be Wilfred at the moment- it seems such a wet name to me! Go for Edward.
