God why are boy's names so hard? Something traditional and classic but not overused

Hi, I need some suggestions for boy's names. I have a DS1 George. If we were to have a DS2 I cannot think of any boy's names that are traditional and classic but not overused. I.e. not Thomas, William, James etc but then not something that says "I am trying too hard". I am pretty brave with my names (i.e. love Thaddeus, Balthazar, Ernest etc) but my husband is less so.

Any suggestions? So far I have:

Henry
Samuel
Christian
Felix
Magnus
Jasper?

I want something where he is not going to be one of 10 in a classroom but a name I am not going to feel ridiculous calling out in the supermarket.

Any and all suggestions welcome, no matter how obscure.

Thanks!

Henry. Love it. None in our primary school of 160. It fits with George too.

Love Magnus too.

So many great choices! I've named 4 and would just say to try ignore concern that they will be one of 10 in their class - pick the one you want to say/hear/write/love/shout a million times (we always practised shouting them a few times - we almost went with Sam and Anna for the first 2 before realising we would sound like banana crazy fruit sellers shouting after them!).

It's like when you're at a great restaurant and the other person orders the dish you were craving. You'll never be as happy with something else.

When I read you had a George, I immediately thought Henry Grin.

I also think Arthur would go well. I love Thomas (I would though, I have one) & funnily enough he is the only one in his year at school (Year 6). I think it depends on how popular a name is in your area as opposed to nationally as to whether you'll have 10 others with the same name at school.

minceorotherwise · 01/02/2012 19:53

I think that is because we (of a certain age, still have the Diana wedding in our heads) I Charles, Philip, Arthur, George....etc

Oubliette0292 · 01/02/2012 20:16

Due for a comeback:
Percy, Hugh, Alec, Wilfred (I have one - I'm yet to meet another), Ralph, Guy, Malcolm, Albert, Howard, Ernest, Jeremy, Colin, Dennis

Fairly common when I was at school (but not so much now):
Andrew, Jonathan, Mark, Christopher, Adrian, Paul, Robert, Phillip, Simon, Adam, Nicholas, Michael, Richard, David, Peter

redrubyshoes · 01/02/2012 20:21

I have posted this before but Percy is Finnish for 'arse'.

Never take him to Lapland and lose him in a supermarket. Smile

SharkBite · 01/02/2012 20:23

Charles (nn Charlie)

PercyFilth · 01/02/2012 20:28

Well that goes nicely with my surname them :o
