Love Tom and Joseph but anything more original out there?

Just found out we're having a second DS. Any good names that are original but also classic and not faddy? Naming a boy is a big responsibility! Playground teasing to worry about...

If you're worried about playground teasing (which imo is less about names but personality), I'd probably avoid Will as the Willy association is too tempting for young boys...

Phillip
George
Anthony

My DS2 is called Tom Joseph. So, IMO, you already have the perfect name Grin.

If DD had been DS3 instead we were thinking of;

Daniel
Isaac
Oscar

What is your DS1 called? It might help to know what sort of names you usually like.

MamaMaiasaura · 27/01/2012 22:05

Oh yes I like Isaac and Oscar and Oliver too.

MamaMaiasaura · 27/01/2012 22:13

Ds1 goes to school with a couple of Williams. One is billy and other will

I really like Tom actually. What about:

Ben
Max
Leo

Tom and Joseph were our favourites, so we now have a Thomas Joseph (Tom). If you like it, go for it. They are classic names. Won't be the only ones at school but does that matter?

Popoozle · 27/01/2012 23:19

Same as me 33goingon64, and actually my Tom is the only one in his year at school Grin. There are four Olivers and four Chloes though!

BleatingRose · 27/01/2012 23:21

Gilbert

My Dgrandpa was Tom and had I had a DS he would have been James Thomas.

Joseph is lovely too!

I like classical boys names, I think it's harder for a boy to carry of something unusual than a girl.
(even then neither of my DDs are called anything flashy either)

IHeartKingThistle · 27/01/2012 23:57

Joel. So lovely.

brandrethmupp · 27/01/2012 23:59

If I had a boy I'd call him Ivan.

Bagabee · 30/01/2012 21:15

Ah, thank you! Our DS1 is listed in the suggestions there too. Think we're going to go for Thomas Arthur. Plenty of time to change mind though. Boys def harder - need to go classic really!

We have a Thomas as well (nearly a year). As my husband said, it passes the 3 part test for boy's names:

  1. It can have a cute nickname as a child Tom, Tommy
  2. When he grows up it's professional (Thomas, Tom)
  3. If he's in the pub with friends and someone shouts out his name, other people won't think "what a twat of a name"
0000000003mom · 31/01/2012 19:41

Henry Joseph & William John

PopcornBiscuit · 01/02/2012 11:38

Thomas Arthur is very nice. Let us know what you go for eventually!

3boysgirlontheway · 01/02/2012 12:12

I find boys so much easier to name, we had our boys names done and dusted by 22 weeks each time, I am 35 weeks now and we are still in the middle of debates on a girls name :)

For what it is worth we have a George, a Levi and a Saul.
