As mn for a boy. No real idea what the first name will be yet, possibly Fergus or Douglas.

Will teachers laugh?

I know a couple of people with Somerset as a middle name - to my knowledge, they've never been laughed at.

GrimmaTheNome · 27/01/2012 14:49

Its fine as a middle name. They might think you have literary pretensions - well, perhaps you do! (Like your MN name BTW. Wondering what it implies about you!)

tummytickler · 27/01/2012 14:56

I really like it, actually.

pixiestix · 27/01/2012 14:59

As a middle name, ok. As a first name, teachers might laugh.

Fergus and Douglas are fab!

MamaLazarou · 27/01/2012 15:28

I really like it. Let people laugh if that's their bag.

lisaro · 27/01/2012 15:29

Nope, don't like it, but have seen worse. Doubt some people with get the literary link, though.

Zwitterion · 27/01/2012 15:55

Thanks for all the comments.

It's a geographical thing actually, not literary (although I don't mind if people make that assumption at all). We live in Somerset, and DH is incredibly attached to the area having grown up here.

DD has a name that is linked to area, but not as blatant.

Grimma thanks. I'm not remotely scientific, but I liked the implications of the word (and the sound)

I think people around you might find it weird if its where you live... although that shouldn't in itself stop you.

Gapants · 27/01/2012 16:09

Like it, but I think you could give anything as a middle name as they are almost never used or even known outside of the family.

CheshireDing · 27/01/2012 17:41

I know a baby girl with it as her middle name.

As Using said though it might be weird if you still live there. The baby I know lives elsewhere so it seems okay.

BuntyPenfold · 29/01/2012 16:15

As a middle name I like it.
I know two boys here in Devon whose first name is Devon; they seem to cope.

PopcornBiscuit · 29/01/2012 17:04

Not my taste but I like the sentiment behind it - obviously means something to you so use it :)

rachel234 · 30/01/2012 07:19

I like it.

MalibuStacy · 30/01/2012 07:28

Absolutely love it. I knew two brothers called Somerset and Sebastian.

RillaBlythe · 30/01/2012 20:12

Isn't there a MNer with a boy called Artemis Somerset? Hmm, surely not, Artemis is a girl's name. I'm sure there is someone around who has used Somerset somewhere in the name though. Or am I making this up?
