How popular is James amongst the under 5s is it such a classic name that it doesn't matter?

Don't know a single one under 5. Am in the NW.

NickNacks · 26/01/2012 20:00

I love it and may be a little bias.

DS is 8 and is the only James in his school and has been for the 4 yrs he's been there.

WetAugust · 26/01/2012 20:08

I really really wanted this for DS but 24 years ago it was a very common name. DS got it as a middle name.

It's classic. It's classless. It's got numerous nick names.

It's just a fantastic name.

wheredidiputit · 26/01/2012 20:12

I know of one who is 8/9yrs and one new born.

pilates · 26/01/2012 20:15

My son who is 7 has two in his class, but it wouldn't put me off.

It's a lovely classic name.

Go for it.

rachel234 · 26/01/2012 20:16

You need to look at the ONS list of baby names used last year - it lists how often each name was used.

rachel234 · 26/01/2012 20:16

I find it a little dull, to be honest.

south345 · 26/01/2012 20:17

There's only 1 in ds' school of 100 children.

pilates · 26/01/2012 20:24

rachel234 she was asking how popular it is, not whether you liked it.Smile

Tequilamockinbird · 26/01/2012 20:26

I know a 2yo, a 3yo and a newborn

Kayzr · 26/01/2012 20:30

I know 1 young James. I know loads that are about my age (25)

Rindercella · 26/01/2012 20:32

I know several around DD1's age (4/5 years old). Mostly in London and the SE.

Hassled · 26/01/2012 20:33

It's a great name and will never date - and I know no little Jameses. Quite a few in their 20s, a couple in their teens and that's it.

tummytickler · 26/01/2012 20:55

I don't know any little James'. I know quite a lot in their 30's.
Beautiful name, such fab nicknames and some great namesakes out there too.

Chesticles · 26/01/2012 21:14

My DS is James. He is 20months. Don't know any others at tots groups/nurseries in my area (Fife) and I go to a lot of groups (DD is 4). My friend from uni also has a James (4yo) and my neighbour has a James (8yo). So a few around, but not huge amounts considering how far up the statistics it is.

wigglesrock · 26/01/2012 21:17

I know one who is 3 months and one who is 7 years, I like it, my husband loves it. He really wanted it for any ds but with our surname its the name of an actor and we had dds Grin

boohome · 26/01/2012 22:59

I know one 5 month old James. Also another James in the bumps & babies group I go to, not sure how old he is but under a year.

Fantastic classic name in my opinion.

manicinsomniac · 27/01/2012 00:51

James was ranked number 10 in England and Wales in 2010.
4351 little James' were born.

CheshireDing · 27/01/2012 00:59

The youngest James I know is 35.

sashh · 27/01/2012 05:55

I know one who is 14, named after a relative.

Just to add, I have never met a nasty James - I know / have known loads over the years and they are all really nice people.

Montsti · 27/01/2012 06:36

I do know a lot of James' - quite a few under 2, however it's one of those names that has always been popular - a classic so personally it wouldn't bother me. It certainly won't date...

oooggs · 27/01/2012 06:40

Our James is 8. I don't know any under 5. Know a handful between 6 and 10 years.

Love it Grin

HillyWallaby · 27/01/2012 06:45

I have children starting at 19 and going down to 12 and they all know loads and loads of Jameses, especially the 12 year old. He has six in his class at his old school. Not sure about younger children though - think it is still popular but on the wane a bit now.

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 27/01/2012 12:19

When DD was born, there were 3 little James' in our immediate circle who were born around the same time. James was a likely boys name for us at that time, and I was very glad we didn't use it. It's put me right off using it for DC2 if (s)he turns out to be a boy.

3boysgirlontheway · 27/01/2012 12:21

I know about 4 under the age of 5, however it is a classic so the popularity of it would not bother me if I liked it and wanted to use it x
