Just that really.

What do we think of:

Marion/an
Merryn
Merry
Marina
Marika
Mari

?

Not pregnant, just fantasising about a future child. Multicultural family so could pull off an 'unusual' spelling.

re being cornish to use the name Merryn, we arent cornish tho if you go back a couple of generations on dps side there is cornish ancestory. however we just liked it! it means joyous and lighthearted :) and also 'wave of the sea'

we have had nothing but positive comments and lots of questions about where it is from as its not a very common name, but equally it isnt so unusual that its 'odd' iykwim?

i also liked Meredith when i was pregnant but dp didnt. Merryn was just a name we found when doing google search for a name and it just seemed to 'fit' dd :)

WineOhWhy

I know a Meriel too - wonder if it is the same one.

What about Mari - it's on your list, my housemate is a big Morning Musume fan so I'm familiar with Mari Yaguchi

duchesse · 24/01/2012 10:58

shouldnotbehere · 24/01/2012 11:17

Maanika (know an Indian girl with this name).

Clutching at straws here.

WineOhWhy · 25/01/2012 14:06

Yes, the 2 Marinas I know have the emphasis on the second syllable.

Sashh, the Meriel I know is pregnant.

Gincognito · 25/01/2012 18:30

I love Meredith and can be shortened to Edie.

its on my list!

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 25/01/2012 21:00

Marianne and Merryn - absolutely beautiful.

I have synesthesia where you 'see' letters as colours, and to me a capital M is midnight blue - a beautiful, elegant, mysterious, swishy sort of colour. Grin

Gincognito · 25/01/2012 21:49

Ooh slinking that is fascinating

What colour is N?

OP posts:
SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 25/01/2012 22:35
Grin

To me it is one of the slightly less interesting letters, colour-wise - it is a sort of slate grey. But someone else with synesthesia will see another colour.

Vowels, for some reason, are all really pale...

A - dusky, antique rose
E - yellow, brighter or more pale lemon-y depending on which other letters it's with
I and O - a white-ish, cream ivory colour
U - nude

And then sometimes a word will be greater than the some of its parts and will have an overriding colour which doesn't necessarily correlate with the way I see the colours of the individual letters.

I didn't realise other people didn't 'see' this until I was probably in my 20s, I think - late teens, at least!

FellatioNelsonsDog · 26/01/2012 03:31

So when you are reading a block of text, is it an ever-changing rainbow, or can you see print in black and white if you want to? And what about when the print is in colour, for example on brand logos? Does your mind block out the actual colour and replace it with your colour, or can you see both? And what about numbers?

Sorry to completely hijack the thread but this is more interesting. Grin

KrissieJules · 26/01/2012 03:37

My daughter's middle name is Mari, pronounced Mar-Ee. Its a family name on my partner's side. I like it :)

Also could pronounce it Ma-ri?

KrissieJules · 26/01/2012 03:56

Also - Marilyn.

I heard it the other day, quite an old name but old names are coming back in to play!

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 26/01/2012 06:34

I read text as black and white but if I focus on a word I'll see its colours, especially if it's a word I haven't encountered before.

Brand/logos do tend to take over, but sometimes my colours will come to the fore.

Yes, I see numbers as colours as well.

Some people hear music or sounds in response to words - it's basically a clash of the senses!!

babloogirl · 26/01/2012 06:52
