Clara

DH has toyed with some of my suggestions, but in the end decided against every name I have come up with.

We both quite like Clara. My brother and I struggled with our r's growing up, but I think the r being in the word, rather than the start, makes it easier.

Our name is similar to Grelsey, is this okay.

I this an easy name to say - Clara Grelsey?

I like the name Clara, but not sure it flows well with Grelsey.

How about Claire? It's less used than Clara at the moment. Or Carina?

shouldnotbehere · 21/01/2012 17:41

I wondered if it was just me, that didn't think it flowed.

My brother's wife is Claire, as is my sister, a third would be too many.

I have already suggested Karena to DH, and it's been vetoed. I think Carina would be vetoed too.

Cara Grelsey sounds better, but not so keen on the name.

Definitely not Mary. I was never bookish.

Not bold enough to be Lizzie. Not kind enough to be Mary.

I was Kitty, easily led... and quite silly

Ooops I had a few windows at the time, and posted a Pride and Prejudice response in baby names.

Beautiful name, I know a gorgeous baby Clara and everyone comments on what a lovely name - not common either. I think it sounds fine with your surname.

ThePoorMansBeckySharp · 21/01/2012 19:24

LOVE Clara.

poppydaisy · 21/01/2012 20:25

Agree that Clara Grelsey doesn't flow that well.

But
Clare Grelsey
Cara Gresley
Carina Gresley
all sound very nice imo.

bluebump · 21/01/2012 20:28

My friend just had a Clara, I like it. I think it sounds fine with your surname too.

Hope88 · 21/01/2012 21:20

How about Clarissa?

shouldnotbehere · 22/01/2012 15:41

Love the name Clarissa, but DH has vetoed it, as poncey.

Clare is a no, due to it already being twice in the family (three times with DH cousin and she has the surname Grelsey). Carina vetoed.

Cara possibility, but prefer Clara.

Thanks JestersHat.

Ciara is on the list, although we're not Irish.

Some great suggestions, but they have all been ruled out previously for various reasons.

Clara is lovely, but it jars with Grelsey.

JestersHat · 22/01/2012 18:11

OK... so what sort of names haven't yet been ruled out (if any)?

We've been suggesting names starting with C but perhaps should be making suggestions starting with any letter, in a similar style, if that would help?

shouldnotbehere · 24/01/2012 11:09

My husband is an inverted snob, the names I like, are apparently posh - Florence, Isabel, Helena, Selina, and Iona.

The names my husband likes are Lauren, Ciara, Amy, Holly etc.

I do not like names ending in y or ie, due to our surname ending in y/ie. I do not like the alliteration.

My dd is Clara - I still love it and she does too. Not sure it goes with your surname though.

smother · 24/01/2012 12:47

I think Clara Grelsey is a bit of a tongue-twister, sorry but you did ask...

Willabywallaby · 24/01/2012 12:56

I know a Clara Clark...

rebecklet · 24/01/2012 12:59

Clara always reminds me of Clara the Cow :(

I really like Cara and it seems to go much better with your surname.

dippydoodah · 24/01/2012 13:03

Love Clara and I think it's ok with your surname.

nicknamenotinuse · 24/01/2012 13:28

I nearly called my daughter Clara but everyone on here told me it was really really common so I didn't. Can't understand why it was so so popular so recently and no one has mentioned it now.
