any ideas for similar sorts of names? Pondering this kind of group of unusual but not too frilly names, and finding it hard to think of others. I really like Harper but can't use it now...

They don't sound strong, just silly.

Interesting- those names don't sound strong to me- they sound wet. Particularly Echo- what sort of a names that for a woman? Not even her own voice- just an echo?

What about Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Foxtrot, Golf, Hotel, India, Juliet, Kilo, Limo, Mike, November, Oscar, Papa, Quebec, Romeo, Sierra, Tango, Uniform, Victor, Whiskey, X-ray, Yankee or Zulu?

Piper and Merren were our short list for DD1. She's Merren.
If DS had been a DD he'd have been Lara. I think after Lara Croft it can't be anything but a strong name! :o

I know sooooo many Pipers! Geat name but surely going to be top ten this year?

TheGrandOldDuke · 24/01/2012 13:22

great

None of the names in the thread title say "strong" to me. One says magazine; one says ballet dancer with weird resonance of Jane Austen snob-dandy; and one says nymph that facilitated Zeus's adultery.

I love some of the hideously unfashionable old-lady names like Agatha and especially Agnes. They seem "strong" to me. But I suspect it is all in the eye of the beholder.

takeonboard · 24/01/2012 13:28

I Love Piper and Harper, its a shame VB used Harper. If DS had been a girl she would have been Stevie which is my fave girls name.

CalatalieSisters · 24/01/2012 13:29

Scout and Piper brilliant for dogs.

winterreise · 24/01/2012 21:15

You seem to like surnames for a baby girl how about Smith or Jones? Likewise occupations Piper, Harper, Bricklayer, Plumber.
Life is easier if you don't have a name you have to constantly spell, pronounce or declare your gender.
