I shit you not

I love it. It was even on my list of planned baby names when I was 15.

Amazingly dp likes it too. And it's got nothing to do with the fact that I am completely obsessed a little bit in love with Benedict Cumberbatch and already have a Benedict

It's a good name for a band.

Or a dog, you know, a bloodhound or something.

What would you call a sibling?

RnB · 21/01/2012 07:44

Mycroft? Moriaty?

flopsy1974 · 21/01/2012 07:46

Way OTT especially if you already have a Benedict.

PessimisticMissPiggy · 21/01/2012 08:09

Not sure that I could set a DC up for the ribbing when they're older. You just need one smart arse teacher to make a quip and the poor child will never here the end of it.

Middle name?

RnB · 21/01/2012 08:46

Middle name wouldn't be good enough to satisfy me I'm afraid.
Hmm what would I shorten it too...sherly?

Sonotwonderwoman · 21/01/2012 08:50

I know a Sherwin.

Nagoo · 21/01/2012 09:01

Sherly you can't be serious.

If you read all the books, I'll let you call the baby Sherlock Grin

FriggFRIGG · 21/01/2012 09:03

Ummm,I don't think you can.

Are you really serious?

Grin
HeidiHole · 21/01/2012 09:11

ROFL at "shirly" as the nickname :D

CalatalieSisters · 21/01/2012 09:16

Absolutely you should call him Sherlock. They do some darling fleece deerstalkers in Baby Gap. Make sure he can say "Elementary!" at an early age to put down all the non-G&T children.

RnB · 21/01/2012 09:17

Actually you're right I think Locky is better

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/01/2012 20:42

It's ridiculous.

Benedict is lovely. If you really do have a ds2 and name him Sherlock, whilst his brother has a sensible name like Benedict, he will grow up to think you hate him.

Go and have a nice lie down in a darkened room and then come back and tell us you were joking. Please? :)

EmmaCB1 · 21/01/2012 20:51

Ha, this made me smile. My surname was sherlock until I got married and although I hated it growing up I kind of miss it now. Think it is a bit ott for a first name though. I was forever being called Sherlock Holmes, people always said 'no shit Sherlock' when I answered a question in class etc etc you get the picture. On the plus side I never had to spell it out over the phone which I do with my married name!

CalatalieSisters · 21/01/2012 21:26

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about "No shit, Sherlock!" You'll be able to say that to him every time you've put on a fresh nappy. Another good reason for choosing this name.

BleatingRose · 21/01/2012 23:01

I actually know a Mycroft, gets called Myke most of the time...

RnB · 23/01/2012 07:15

Lol! Wow can't believe you know a mycroft :)

ObviouslyI am nit serious about this one - I do like unusual names but even I could go quite that far!

Hmmm - middle name though...would be pretty cool

Sherlock is a great name. My husband wanted to call our son Mycroft, but I thought it would get shortened to Mike.

muffinino82 · 24/01/2012 01:21

I love the name, it's just beautiful, but I think it just cannot be used for a first name as it's so associated with the character. I bet some idiot with the surname Holmes has used it, though.

Could you use it as a middle name? They hardly ever get used anyway but it would be a way to use it. Hamish? John Watson's middle name. But then you can't really have a Hamish Sherlock, sh's too close together.

Arf at having a Benedict and a Sherlock stalker You can't now use Martin, either

muffinino82 · 24/01/2012 01:59

I know you're not serious but I love it so much I'd be tempted :o

ThatVikRinA22 · 24/01/2012 02:10

no shit, sherlock!

RnB · 24/01/2012 16:37

Lol, I think I've started something... Wink

MuffinMaiden · 25/01/2012 01:12

I just found this thread and was about to suggest Hamish but I see I was beaten to it Grin

I told my partner the other day that I want to get 3 cats to call Sherlock, Mycroft and Watson, and a big black dog to call Moriarty. Don't think I'd dare suggest that to him for children's names though!
