Can this be a name in it's own right?

We like the name Cassie but none of the longer forms e.g. Cassandra. Do you think Cassie can be a name in it's own right without sounding too nicknamey as I'm not keen on nicknamey names. Does anyone know any Cassies? Thanks!

I dont think it's any different from the Carries, Maisies and Kerries of the world.

Daftapath · 17/01/2012 15:00

My Nana was called Cassie, short for Catherine.

Cassis as a non-shortened name is fine on it's own, IMHO though.

I know a cassie, pretty sure she's a cassanndra though. You can make anything a name, but thinnk she's have is it shoort for... following her all the time!

MamaLazarou · 17/01/2012 16:03

Yes, why not? Cassie is lovely.

EatingLemonCheesecake · 17/01/2012 16:14

A girls i went to school with has a Cassie, its very sweet :)

dontcallmedeliah · 17/01/2012 16:16

My GreatAunt Daftapath was the the same a Catherine but only ever called Cassie.

I know a few people called Cassie and they are just Cassie. I really like it by it's own. And people are more accepting of ie/y names as full names now not just as a nn from another name (often they are nicer as well)

I know a Cassie who's a Cassandra and a Cassie who's a Cassidy. The former only uses her full name on official forms, so is 'Cassie' for all intents and purposes. I think it's a lovely name.

BunnyLebowski · 17/01/2012 16:53

I have a 'just' Cassie Smile

She's named after my Granny who was Catherine. I remember her telling me many times over the years that her Daddy called her Cassie.

She died when I was pregnant so DD never got to meet her Sad.

Anyway....yes Cassie is definitely a name in it's own right Smile

I like Cassie and think it's fine on its own. (But I do also like Cassandra very much).

statueofliberty · 17/01/2012 16:57

I know a beautiful girl called Cassie, like it very much

OriginalJamie · 17/01/2012 17:39

I like Cassie a lot. I think it is better in its own right than some.

sassyTHEFIRST · 17/01/2012 17:44

I've a Cassie who is really Catherine. She loves both names - so do we

I know a Cassie who is just Cassie. I think it is doable but personally I would prefer something a bit more "complete". Was going to suggest Cassia as an alternative to Cassandra.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 18/01/2012 01:16

Cassie is fine on its own :)

NadiaWadia · 18/01/2012 02:19

Cassie can be short for Clarissa if you like that?

SubordinateClaws · 18/01/2012 05:07

Cassie sounds like air leaking from a pipe.

LAbaby · 18/01/2012 05:18

My favourite girls name. I like it as a shortened version of cassia, but cassie alone is also beautiful.

RockinD · 12/02/2012 21:30

Just a thought...I know several Cassies...one's a Staffie, one's a Springer...you get the picture...
