Pick one - Kit* or Reuben?

*Christopher would go on the birth certificate but he would be called Kit.

Rarely can there have been such consensus. Can you now confirm OP that Kit it is?

oikopolis · 17/01/2012 16:44

Christopher nn Kit

OriginalJamie · 17/01/2012 17:40

Christopher/Kit

missimills · 17/01/2012 19:27

Kit isn't a girls name at all. It was the original nickname for Christopher before Chris became popular.

Kit is an brilliant name imo much better than Reuben.

Bluestocking · 17/01/2012 19:35

Kit is great, and I'm glad you are going to put Christopher on his BC to give him the choice. Agree with seeker that he may have his own ideas about nicknames, but if you call him Kit from Day One, he probably won't call himself Chris until he's sixteen!

Bluestocking · 17/01/2012 19:37

Really don't like Reuben - a friend once said it reminded her of bilirubin, which is what makes poo brown, and I've never been able to forget it!

GeriManda · 17/01/2012 19:40

ha ha @ stuff that makes poo brown.

I used to like Reuben but I've seriously gone off it in the last few years. I like Kit. I know a male Kim as well and I like that

persephoneplum · 18/01/2012 01:29

Um WOW, almost total 100% agreement here! Took my hubby to the airport today and said the name could well be Kit and he should spend the 14 hours to LA getting very used to it.

Kit from Knight Rider is exactly why the name is so attractive to me. That, and with our incredibly difficult last name, Kit makes it sound like a secret agent name, which of course, my six year old son finds irresistible.

Thanks!!

P.S. Oh dear about the bilirubin... :( I hadn't wanted to go off Reuben completely, but I just might have now :(

I love them both. I have a real soft spot for kit, but havent used it myself as I'm not keen on Christopher.

missimills · 18/01/2012 18:52

persephoneplum are you going to have Christopher on the BC or just Kit.

LA we are on the same wavelength!

DottieRose · 18/01/2012 18:58

Totally love Kit....... dont like Reuben at all!

persephoneplum · 18/01/2012 22:45

missimills - we would have Christopher on the birth certificate (it's my father's name).

It's not my favourite name in the world, even thoughI find it quite handsome, but I don't do nicknames as first names - I like to give my kids the choice of a good solid full name and the groovier nickname. I have a Theodore who goes by Theo most of the time.

PandaG · 18/01/2012 22:48

like both, but prefer Reuben myself. Smile

pooka · 18/01/2012 22:52

Kit.

However - we were keen on kit for ds2. But decided that (in keeping with how we feel about long birth cert names vs shortened daily names - anti) wouldn't want Christopher on birth cert and came up with a different shortened-but-whole name. Kit just seemed too nickname-y in the end. Love it though.

pooka · 18/01/2012 22:53

I do also like Reuben. But mostly because would use Roo as nickname.

BubbaliciousBear · 18/01/2012 22:53

Love Kit! Reuben is the name of a delish sarnie :o

letthembe · 18/01/2012 22:58

Kit every time, I wanted to call my DS Kit nearly 9 years ago now (but ended up with a rather cool name for him instead). But I still love Kit. Also one of my favourite ever pupils was called Kit (and I've taught a lot of children but only one Kit). Good luck with the delivery!

squareheadcut · 18/01/2012 23:02

reuben is much cooler. kit is the car in knight rider

persephoneplum · 18/01/2012 23:08

I LOVED the car in Knight Rider - total positive for me :) He was a dude.

letthembe - I would love to now what your son's cool name is - I'm very much open to other options and if we have similar taste, I'd love to know it :) NO worries if you don't want to share of course. Delivery isn't until early Sept, so a while to go yet! I like to get started on names asap :)

Pooka - I don't mind Roo but we live in Australia so I fear it would be seen as a bit naff here, to be called by the name of a kangaroo. Yes a bit of cultural cringe going on here :)

I would have to do a personal message, as it's very unusual and I've posted some very personal stuff on here in the past 6 months.

letthembe · 18/01/2012 23:13

And I don't want to be identified in RL.

persephoneplum · 18/01/2012 23:24

Of course, I totally understand. Can we PM here? I've never done it on this forum :)

Have PM'd you - worked it out :)

Christopher Reuben, known as Kit. Very nice I think. although on reflection possibly too close to Christopher Robin?

persephoneplum · 19/01/2012 07:21

Yes, I figured that one out too Nooka, but it's ok, we only use family names in the middle. He would probably be Christopher Henry.
