Ok, OH and i were set on this name until about 7 months when i discovered that in some parts of the country it's commonly used as a nickname for girl's private parts!

So we changed our mind and now have a longer name which could be abbreviated to Minnie, Mia or Mina. We both still like Minnie the best but i wanted to ask if you have ever heard of Minnie as a nickname used in the playground for girly bits and if so where you are based?

I think i'm right in thinking it's mainly used as a nickname in the South and South West so we may get away with using it at home up North.

Odd Cwtch - I'm from south wales and it's the term we used!

I'd avoid it - sadly, as it's lovely.

Comedaygodqy- how old were your children when you lived in all those places?

I used to know someone who would snigger if she heard anyone talk about Mini cars. 'She's got a red Mini' etc, because of the vagine connection.

Good point Seeker. I have pre-school boys and we have encouraged them to use correct terms for body parts rather than euphemisms. I have honestly never heard friends' older children or nephews and neices use Minnie in that way though. On reflection OP I think calling your DD Minnie is too risky. You would probably get away with it, but if you didn't it would be grim for her.

Minnie moo is used to describe ladies bits, in my neck of the woodsGrin

Meant to say I'm from the west country

here too, sorry (south east). You'd be insane to use it. I had a friend as a child called Fanny (fairly common 70s french name) and it was grim for her!

I just checked with my ds. He looked at me in a long suffering way and said "you're on mumsnet, aren't you? You asked me that last time someone silly was going to call their kid Minnie. she would ne so teased. It would be horrible. And that's what I said last time too."
