Narrowed it down to two of each. They aren't too awful, are they?

Fingers crossed DC4 should be arriving in the next few days and we're hoping to have the name sorted for if it's a little girl or boy. The criteria is classic with a more useable nn. The girls' names we aren't feeling complete love for but it's hard to choose between they two choices we have for a boy. Anyway, enough rambling, what do you think of these?

Philip Colin Edward (nn Pip)
Alexander Colin Edward (nn Xander or Ali)

Flora Camilla (nn Flossie or Flo)
Isadora Audrey (nn Issy)

Middle names are all family names, although we are also considering using James and Joy. Our other DCs are Cosima, Rupert and Marnie.

I think Joys is also nicer as a first name. Simple, beautiful, classic

OriginalJamie · 15/01/2012 18:02

Joy

alexpolismum · 15/01/2012 19:41

I love Philip Colin Edward. It seems to fit together really nicely.

And I prefer Flora to Isadora. No particular reason, just personal preference.

Blu · 15/01/2012 19:44

Isadora Audrey sounds like a tongue twister.

Do you really need to use Audrey and Colin?

My Mum has a name given from family and she hates it.

PutThatCatOutNow · 15/01/2012 19:52

I think with Isadora, Joy would be the middle name. And yes, family names it is. I also do like the middle names we've chosen, it's an added bonus that they have meaning for us.

Alexander and Flora get my vote!

Bonsoir · 15/01/2012 20:09

DSS1 is Alexandre, DSS2 is Guillaume and DD is Flora. We tried to pick a girl's name that "went" with her stepbrothers' names and was spelled the same way in both French and English (and that we loved, too!).

TBH, Alexandre (or Alexander) is über common and a bit dull compared to Flora, which is a lot less commonly used. Given that your own DCs are Cosima, Rupert and Marnie, none of which are very widespread, I think Alexander and Philip are both a bit run of the mill (even though they are perfectly nice names in themselves). Flora and Isadora are both lovely. I also like Isaure.

PutThatCatOutNow · 15/01/2012 22:45

Bonsoir, how is Isaure pronounced?

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 16/01/2012 08:39

EE-zore

Bonsoir · 16/01/2012 08:42

There is also Isore and Isaura. They are all versions of Isadora (Isahora in some languages).

BackToBligg · 16/01/2012 11:27

I have an Issy and an Ali.

Ishbel is nice.

kelly2000 · 16/01/2012 11:39

alexander colin edwards spells out ace -might end up with the nn.

Isadora audrey, is nice, but the two a's together make it end up with a glottal stop inbetween them, or they sprt of blur together.

PutThatCatOutNow · 16/01/2012 16:45

Ishbel is lovely! I think I'll put it forward to DH tonight.

Ishbel is yummy - I have an Isobel and sometimes wish we'd gone for Ishbel instead. She, however, hates Ishbel and says she would have called Childline, had we called her it. She is a sulky 14 though, so her opinions don't count! :)

ChocolatEtVin · 16/01/2012 18:08

Agree Ishbel is lovely, although I think Isadora just pips it! Isadora Joy is particularly beautiful. Camilla Audrey would make a lovely combo.
Pip is very cute, and I think Phil would be great on an older lad.

PutThatCatOutNow · 17/01/2012 15:27

Ishbel has been well any truly vetoed by DH :( Can anyone think of any other girls names we might like, we're both a bit so so about Isadora and Flora now.

OP posts:
PercyFilth · 17/01/2012 16:45

Not surprised, Ishbel sounds like someone either drunk or with a speech impediment trying to say Isobel.

snowmaiden · 17/01/2012 16:52

I don't like Isadora, it sounds like a question!

I like Flora, but it always make me think of sunflower spread.

I like both the boys names though.

MadDash · 17/01/2012 17:20

Alexander and Isardora Joy for me!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/01/2012 20:01

How about Yolanda/Yolande?

Isolde?

Hermione?

WetAugust · 17/01/2012 23:32

DS is a Phillip (with 2 x Ls)

NN has always been 'Lippi'

NadiaWadia · 18/01/2012 02:21

Don't like Philip that much but your other names are all lovely.

mathanxiety · 18/01/2012 05:53

Theodosia?
Sybille?
Camilla (or Camille) and Audrey are lovely as first names.

Like Philip a lot.
