Down to Elodie or Cleo - with days to go...

We're down to two names now - DH's fav and mine.
We both like both names and are thinking maybe a combination will work.

Elodie Cleo or Cleo Elodie.

Cleo Elodie doesn't flow anywhere near as well but I want to use both names and think Cleo goes better as a first name with our surname (2 two syllable D name that sounds like Denball) and the names of our three boys.

Elodie Denball? Too many 'd' sounds in a row?

I have always loved the name but am concerned that this beautiful name will get butchered with awful pronunciation. We say it to rhyme with melody.
Anyone know an Elodie? Do they have problems with people butchering their name? Some may put emphasis on the word 'load' in the middle or read the end as the word 'die' - based on a couple of comments on forums about this lovely name.

Any help in deciding between these names would be greatly appreciated.

I read Elodie in the way you pronounce it. I haven't heard the name before, but I really like it. I think Cleo Elodie flows better.

Elodie and Cleo are both very nice names :)

I would go for Cleo Denball as I think it flows better with your surname, and this will be used more day-to-day than the first and middle name together.

Elodie Denball - yes, the "d" sounds close together are a bit clunky. Also if the first syllable of your real surname is an eh sound then you've got that with both the first and surnames which sounds a bit much.

I know an Elodie and people often pronounce it as El-ody. Both are lovely, unusual names but I would go for Cleo with your surname.

I prefer Cleo Elodie. I think Elodie 'Denball' sounds like a mouthful of Ds, whereas Cleo Denball flows very nicely.

Elodie sounds a bit truncated to my ear -- as if it should be 'melody'.

I prefer Elodie. Beautiful name

Also - have you thought about Elise?

bamboozled · 14/01/2012 19:38

I have a Cleo - she just loves her name (was 11 on Thursday).

Thank you - you've all confirmed what I was thinking about the name Cleo going better with our surname.

I have loved Elodie for years but when you put it with our surname and our other children's names it ends up sounding very full of 'd's. Especially as she will be our last so will be 'and Elodie Denball' when we list our children - just to add another 'd' with the word 'and'! (if that makes sense!).

OriginalJamie - Elise is cute but I know one which makes it a no go for me.

Now thinking that Cleo Isabella/ Isobella or Cleo Isobel flows better than Cleo Elodie.
I love the name Elodie but with our surname I won't get to use it myself. Sad
Isobel is the name of a family member we would love to honour and I think it does go well.

A lovely name combination. Flows really well.
