Ivy...

Hello, I'm due in late March and this has been our favourite girls name. Just heard about Beyonce's baby being named 'Blue Ivy', and wonder if it might become a bit faddy now.

Would be interested if people notice an increase in little girls called Ivy over the next month or so, or if you heard the name Ivy for a new baby would you think it was directly inspired by Beyonce's choice?

I heard somewhere (well dd actually) that she got the Ivy from her thing about the number 4 (her b'day...mum's b'day....dh b'day''''wedding day etc),and Ivy is actually 4 in roman numerals....IV...geddit?

hi kiki, my dp had always talked about calling his little girl Seven. then posh spice went and had her little girl. We had a boy so it didnt matter in the end but not sure if we would still use it now. however, Seven is probably more 'out there' than Ivy and got a very negative reaction from the press/public.

if you love the name and have a reason for using it other than cos you love it, after a relative etc then i think you should just go for it. If ppl ask or when you announce the birth you can say 'we have decided to call her Ivy, after my nanna/great aunt etc etc.

I have liked it since I was pg with DC2 eight years ago, but DH hates it.
I have seen it mentioned and suggested on here quite a lot over the past couple of years but not sure how many people have actually used it.

Ivy is a lovely name, and has been around a lot longer than Beyonce.

Ivy is still a Corrie name to me.

I'm a little miffed at Beyonce at the moment for this very reason - rather unfair of me I know .

Even though DC4 isn't on the cards (DC3 is only 5 months) - Ivy Blue was/is top of my shortlist for a girl . There's absolutely no way I could use both Ivy & Blue together now without people thinking I'd copied been inspired by Beyonce.

Ivy on it's own you should be OK with - as celeb names go it's very "normal" so there will be others around.

I know, Kiki, I know! . I suppose at least Beyonce had the good grace to put the name t'other way round .

Hello just bumping this to see if anyone has noticed a spate of newborn little girls called Ivy this past month or so since I originally posted...?

I don't know any young Ivies.

Cheers ladies- it's whether it's suddenly become popular I'm really trying to suss out, rather than opinions on the name itself.

Really wouldn't make me think of Beyonce - Blue might, but I think you're safe with Ivy! Haven't heard of a spate of them, either way.

Ivy is a lovely name, definitely wouldn't make me think of beyonce.
