Rowan

Bunbaker · 12/01/2012 17:52

To me Rowan is a boy's name. What about Rowena? I love Rosa.

Nospringflower · 12/01/2012 17:54

Rosa is much nicer IMO

GlaikitFizzog · 12/01/2012 17:54

I would go for Rosa, but a friend has just had a DS Rowan so I associate it with girls. having said that it is a name the bridges the gender divide!

Also would you pronounce it Row as in show or as in how?

pointydog · 12/01/2012 18:04

Either. Both beautiful.

I love Rowan for girls (rhyming with cow) but it seems to be more of a boys' name for southerners.

Bunbaker · 12/01/2012 18:37

Ah pronunciation. Here in South Yorkshire Rowan, which is generally a boy's name is pronounce Roe-an.

Am I classed as a Southerner pointydog?

Beamur · 12/01/2012 18:38

Both are nice, but Rosa ha the edge for me. Pretty feminine name - saying that the Rosa I know is one feisty little girl.

meditrina · 12/01/2012 18:40

I think they're both lovely names.

I'd go for Rosa (as my preference is not for unisex names).

Marinn · 12/01/2012 18:43

I think Rowan is much more of a boys name nowadays so I'd go for Rosa but Rowena is nicer than both of them imo.

Bunbaker · 12/01/2012 18:45

I forgot to say which I preferred. I really like the name Rosa. DD is friendly with a Rosa and she is a lovely girl with a nice nature. I still like Rowena though.

storytopper · 12/01/2012 18:48

I knew a girl called Roanna. I think that's a pretty name.

TheOddsAreEven · 12/01/2012 18:56

Rosa is very pretty. Rowan makes me think of Mr Bean.

PercyFilth · 13/01/2012 00:42

Rosa, no contest.

ReneeVivien · 13/01/2012 03:02

Both nice, Rosa my favourite.

lauraloveskitsch · 13/01/2012 03:29

Rosa is my favourite as I tend to think Rowan as more masculine. I also know a female Rowan in her twenties though.

Offspring · 13/01/2012 06:39

I like both, but do prefer Rosa.

Montsti · 13/01/2012 06:45

I like Rosa - think it's pretty and feminine, but not keen on Rowan especially as I have only ever met males called this...

MrsKitty · 13/01/2012 06:50

I know a Roanne. I do think of Rowan as a boys name (even though I know it's not, necessarily).

Ishtar2410 · 13/01/2012 06:51

We had Rowan on the list for DD - I know it's more popular for a boy, but we liked it for a girl.

When she was born she was definitely not a Rowan - she has a different name. So we kept it as an option for the future.

Two years later my sister named her son Rowan.

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 13/01/2012 09:02

Rowan for me. I think it's a lovely name for a girl.

Not Rowena. :-/

guinealady · 13/01/2012 10:02

I think Rowan can definitely be gender neutral, no harm in using it for a girl...I do love Rowena though!

JestersHat · 13/01/2012 11:14

I prefer Rosa.

Rowan is too unisex but I like Rowena.

VerityBrulee · 13/01/2012 11:18

Rosa, one of the nicest people I know is a Rosa! Lovely name Smile
