What do you think about siblings with the same initials?

I am anti it. Makes post confusing. But all the names I like seem to begin with the same letter.

I found it a pain with my DS, but we knew a family where both parents and the twin DCs all had the initials BB and they seem to have survived.

hellymelly · 11/01/2012 17:55

I have two dds and they have the same first initial. I really really wanted to avoid it but DD2 was six weeks old and still nameless ,we couldn't find a name we liked better so had to use it.It suits her and is a lovely name but I can see people look a bit baffled when i say their names. At the time I also thought I might try for a third,as if the third has a different initial then it isn't noticable but I have stopped at two so we are stuck with it. They like having the same initial though!

Catsmamma · 11/01/2012 17:59

AND it saves a fortune on name tapes!

PercyFilth · 11/01/2012 18:22

Aha, "Ballet Shoes" reference spotted! Pauline, Petrova and Posy :o

guinealady · 11/01/2012 18:34

Catsmamma - my cheapskate thrifty mum dealt with name tags by ordering ones that said A Guinea B (A being siblings initial, B being mine), so the tag on my clothes said 'Guinea B' instead of 'B Guinea'.

Yes, it looked ridiculous and I felt like a fool whenever anyone saw the label and said 'Guinea B? Why is your name back to front?'

4madboys · 11/01/2012 18:45

my dp his mum and his sister all have the same intitials and non of them have a middle name, it drove him mad as a child/teen re post etc.

i havent done it, but that was more down to the names we liked, it just so happened they didnt start with the same letter, tho some of the names we liked for dd started with either mine or dps initial, but we found another name we liked more :)

re name tags, my kids have a double barrelled name so i just get the surname put on tags, but tbh most of the time i just use a sharpie marker pen and write on the tag and the inside of a bottom hem or sleeve, job done and i only ever put the surname as stuff gets handed down!

I was wondering this as well. DD2's name begins with an 'A' and when we were expecting DD3 we ruled out several 'A' names we loved, because of this. But now I'm expecting DC5 and those 'A' names have come up again. Would it be so bad to have two Miss A XXXX's in the family? They would have different middle name initials.

thistlemuncher · 11/01/2012 20:27

Avoid it. My sister and I have the same initials. I hate it. I am younger, so she always got to open the post, I was often called by her name and they always mixed up our medical records. In my view something to avoid, and have discounted names for this one as they start with same letter as DS.

Chynah · 11/01/2012 21:44

awful! there are a family in my road that have this - so confusing !

Sonotwonderwoman · 11/01/2012 21:48

A friend has two boys whose names start with the same first two letters - and the same initial as her DH. They are lovely names but I do tend to have to pause half way through each name.

FrancesHouseman · 11/01/2012 21:48

I'm anti it yet have somehow ended up with 2 DC with the same initial as each other, me and their half sister!

All the best names start with L, what can I say?!

joanofarchitrave · 11/01/2012 21:55

Got turned down for several financial things due to living with my Dad who has similar initials to me (and a credit file that is bright red). Avoid if you can tbh.

And they're at home for 18 years or so... quite a long time IMO...

bramblina · 11/01/2012 22:02

Yes Frances they do (mineGrin)

My sister and I have the same first initial and we BOTH hated it. Caused a little confusion really in the grand scheme of things, but we just like our own identity and didn't like the way it was. I have actively NOT allowed my children to share an initial with each other or dh. Not anal, just remember how I didn't like it.
I know a family with surname B. Parents initials both N. 3 kids, all initial A. call themselves the BANANA family Hmm
On another note, know a couple whose christian names both contain 7 letters. So, each of their 4 children were concieved with the intention of being due to be born in July-yes really and conception was discussed each time with the intention of a July due date. Child no 4 was 3 days late and did arrive in August however but each of the 4 children also have 7 letters in their christian names. Not really related but I thought of it just now Smile

Heswall · 11/01/2012 22:04

DH and I have the same initial so we made a point of giving the children all different ones. I know a couple who have the same initials themselves and then their DC have the same initials too, very odd.

Heswall · 11/01/2012 22:06

Now bramblina, all my children's names have 5 letters and contain an A and all their birth dates, day, month and year are even numbers. I went into labour on the 13th and I swear I held on 24 hours :D

bramblina · 11/01/2012 22:11

Grin I wouldn't hold on for anybody!!!
My dcs birthdates are a day out of being the same dates but transposed- like 060209 and 090206 but had dd been born the day i went in to labour then they would have been like this. I find it very confusing- and get strange looks when people think I don't know when my babies were born!! Blush

Blatherskite · 11/01/2012 22:12

Both of mine have 9 letter names of Greek origin and both were born on the 17th.

Total co-incidence

MmeLindor. · 11/01/2012 22:17

I didn't even think about it until we had already decided on DS's name that he had the same initial as DD.

As long as you don't have 12 kids with the same initial...

SubordinateClaws · 12/01/2012 08:48

It's horribly twee.

guinealady · 12/01/2012 10:51

I know a family (2 parents, 2 children) whose initials are ABCD - but that's not in descending order of age, just a funny coincidence they must have spotted at some point. I have seen them referred to as the ABCD family, though!

tonialaw84 · 16/01/2012 13:40

Both my DS and DD have same first initial and both names end in the letter Y so they sound nice together, it was done purposely and my DD who is older loves having her baby brother with a similar name! Can't understand how post would be such a big issue, surely all would be revealed in less than a minute when the envelope was opened?!

MadameCastafiore · 16/01/2012 13:40

Mark, Michelle and Martin Fowleresque!

saturdayescape · 16/01/2012 13:43

Not bothered but wouldn't name all my children with same initial - naff.
