So going to start again as I got the spelling wrong last time. What do you think. DH loves it and it's growing on me!
Any horrid potential nicknames ?

Winnie the Pooh seems a likely nickname at school.

I associate it as a name from the West Indies, so might expect you to be of that heritage if I saw the name written down.

On the plus side it's quite unusual but I can't say I like it much.

I am not keen in Winston as it does
Not easily shorten

What about Wilfred? Nn Wilf?

CecilyP · 08/01/2012 12:10

Yes, very common amongst West Indians of a certain age, but practically unused elsewhere except for Churchill himself, until Billie Piper called her baby Winston. I have never heard it shortened, though it probably shortens to Winn, which doesn't seem much of a problem.

Why is there an obsession to shorten every name. OK, if your name has 3 or 4 syllables (e.g. Sebastian, Maximilan, Theodorus etc) you'd probably end up with a shorter nickname, but most 2 syllable names roll off the tongue easily enough imo. (Although Win would be a cool nickname imo!)
