Struggling with pronunciation of boys name Blush, and I am usually pretty good at that sort of thing.

mamadivazback · 08/01/2012 00:33

Yes that is what put me off too, we live in the Highlands but there is a strong English population here too.

Also like the spelling Ruari, is a lot easier so would use that :)

It is spoken Roo-ry

Both lovely Smile

Jessica is 'nice' - Safe and I genuinely like it but I think it's supposed to be getting super popular so something to consider if that bothers you.

Ruaridh is lovely - I considered it for ds as I'm in Scotland and love the roo-ri pronunciation but two things concerned me- the spelling was difficult (I'm not even sure I've spelt it right here) and also I knew he would get roar-ri pronunciation which I didn't like. Just my personal thoughts though.

Both nice :)

Both very nice. And here in the Central Belt I would know how to pronounce the boy's name. Although be warned, the purist's way to pronounce it is

Roo-a-ry.

With a quick little 'lilt' on the vowels.

I'm from Glasgow and I know several Ruaridhs, but every single one of them spells it a different way. If you look on the registry office's website you'll see how many variations there are. If you counted them all up it'd be in the top hundred names, easily. I presume only one of the spellings is actually correct (yours?).

I've always seen the Irish version spelled Ruairi with a fada above the first i. Is that not correct?

Love Ruaridh! I first heard it when I lived in Edinburgh and it was my friend's dog's name Grin. I think it's a gorgeous traditional name.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 09/01/2012 16:03

Both lovely. A friend has just had a Jessica. I discounted it for impending DD due to popularity (and because I had a hunch she was using it) and I'm a little bit jealous.

rachel234 · 09/01/2012 16:33

Ruaridh is lovely!

I'm really not keen on Jess/Jessica, sorry. But the main thing is that YOU love it, not us, a random bunch of internet users who have very different tastes to you [smile[.

I love Ruaridh but would probably go for the Rory spelling, to prevent other people misspelling it? My DS is Kyle.
