How many of you didn't use a middle name?

....Genuinely interested. Neither my mum or dad have a mn, but my brother and I do. I have a name for future dc that I really like but cant think of a suitable mn and wondered if any of you had just given dc one name and your reason for doing so... :)
My friend went the other way and couldnt decide between three names, so her ds has 2 middle names...

Our PFB (aged 12 weeks) has a middle name and if we have another that baby will too.

I just think it's a bit more interesting and we picked a bit of a more unusual middle name so she can decide if she ever wants to use it or not :)

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 07/01/2012 17:20

I didn't bother as I didn't have a name I felt strongly about to give as a middle name except my deceased grandma's but when put together with DD's first name it sounded ridiculous so I just stuck with the first name and nothing else.

shelley72 · 07/01/2012 17:27

both myself and DH have middle names, but our children don't. We did have a middle name in mind for both DCs which were ok, but in the end we just didnt quite see the point of / feel strongly enough about having a middle name.

I don´t have a middle name & always disliked that I don´t.

Mine both have one.

notquitenormal · 07/01/2012 19:07

I dont have a middle name and, while i dont really mind, i an constantly being accused of lying about it and told i must having a really awful middle name.

Very annoying.

Ds hs a midddle name.

greenmoo · 07/01/2012 19:19

My mum doesn't have a middle name but my uncle, her brother, does Confused

As I said on another thread on here recently, my ex was from a culture where they don't have middle names and he thought it was a rather barmy practice, giving kids names that usually they never use!

That said we gave DS a middle name (DP's and DP's father's first name - naming kids after their dads is a bit of a tradition in DP's family).

Sparklingbrook · 07/01/2012 19:22

No middle names here. No point-they don't need one do they?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 07/01/2012 19:24

I don't have one and neither does DD.

suntansue · 07/01/2012 19:25

Ds1 has dh name for MN but I didn't give Ds2 or Dd1 middle names as didn't want to upset anyone for not using their name.
I hate my names, that's why dd1 hasn't got mine.

LizzieChickens · 07/01/2012 19:50

I don't have a middle name and I wish I had been given one by my parents. As it is, I chose one for myself in my twenties.

rachel234 · 07/01/2012 19:52

I don't have a middle name and am very happy without it. You so rarely need use it anyway, don't you?

ConnorCamden · 07/01/2012 20:01

I didn't have a middle name until I was 18 (changed my surname by deedpoll and decided to add a middle name). Never use it but my kids will get middle names "just because"

Nobody in my blood-family have middle names.

Crumm24 · 07/01/2012 20:31

I don't have a middle name but both my brother and sister do! Clearly, DM ran out of steam by the time I (youngest) came along!! I still really wish I did have one, especially as, like notquite, I always get accused of covering up a rubbish one!!

DH hates his and really wishes he didn't have one, though, so I think there's no right or wrong answer. If you don't feel passionate about any other names, then there's no point adding one on for the sake of it, especially as DC might not appreciate it anyway!

I don't, neither does DS. We do have a hyphenated surname though so thought it might be over egging the pudding.

3boysgirlontheway · 09/01/2012 11:33

I am considering giving our baby girl two middle names, none of them mean anything I just like how they sound. I am quite shallow like that Smile

heartmoonshadow · 09/01/2012 15:04

I don't have a middle name because I have a double barrelled first name, both my brothers have middle names and my DC are both going to have them too. I think it depends on the first name you choose.

MabliD · 09/01/2012 17:48

DD will have two middle names, like DH. DH goes by one of his. We are very awkward and possibly rather pretentious Blush.

squeak2392 · 10/01/2012 18:13

I don't have a mn and I've never liked that fact. I felt a bit left out in primary school when people talked about it (and they did), because I was the only one who didn't have one. My mum chose not to give any of us mns because she didn't like her own (and because she wanted all our names to be as short as possible so that we were only ever called by our actual first name... which didn't work with anyone but Scott :P).
I have a mn in mind for myself, should I ever buck up the courage to change my name, and if my name wasn't so strong as it is, I probably would change it. (So if DCs full name will be strong even without a mn, this point is counter-productive on my part :P But then any siblings will have to have strong fns too, because it would be weird to have one with two names and another with only one.

My siblings have all given their children mns, and I will also be doing so, if only because it makes it prettier :P

JagrsMullet · 10/01/2012 22:44

Neither me or DH have a middle name, but all three of our kids do

MrsDobalina · 10/01/2012 23:29

We didn't give DC1 a middle name, but did to DC2 last year. Now I'm feeling a bit guilty so I'm going to give him a mn for his birthday this year Grin

workshy · 10/01/2012 23:34

I haven't got a middle name, didn't like the fact at school (people saying I was lying when I said I didn't have one, making up what my name might be) and when we went to high school we played games learning names and I had to make one up

also I have a really common name so a middle name would have helped identify me or given me an option to use a different name

my DDs have middle names :)

Neenook · 10/01/2012 23:44

MrsDobalina how old are your DC's? How have you 'given' them names? Not critical, just interested as my DC's don't officially have middle names - not on birth certificate - but use Great Grandfathers' names as middle names.
