Edie/ Eadie? Or is it best used as a nn for Edith - which we're not as keen on. Is it a name that's growing in popularity?

Also, which spelling do you prefer? I prefer Edie but am concerned we will forever be correcting people 'no, it's E-dee not Eddie ...'.

Thanks!

I have heard of quite a few Edies. I would think it was short for Edith, Edwina etc.

Not too keen, it does seem a bit nicknamey.

flamegirl77 · 06/01/2012 16:32

No reason why not, lots of recognised names are also nicknames like Jack, Molly, Alfie etc. It's not easy to find the right name, go for it!

PercyFilth · 06/01/2012 17:16

No. Give the poor child a proper name. What about Eden if you don't like Edith? (although it seems odd not to like Edith if you like Edie)

Clearlymisunderstood · 06/01/2012 17:27

I love it my friends littke girl is Edie Grace - never had any probs with other people pronouncing it as far as I know

rachel234 · 06/01/2012 18:23

I'd see Edie as a boys name, short for Edward Blush. Why would you pronounce the E as ee and not as Ellie?

PercyFilth · 06/01/2012 18:29

Because it's short for Edith which is prn Ee-dith. Don't ask .... :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/01/2012 18:31

I like Edie - much nicer than Edith. Eadie looks weird to me.

rachel234 · 06/01/2012 19:51

Couldn't Edie also be short for Edwina, for example?

I think a lot of people would mispronounce Edie. Whilst Eadie looks a little odd, at least the pronunciation is clear.

FoxyRevenger · 06/01/2012 20:01

I think it's lovely, and I think, although it's unusual, it's not so out there that you'd spend your life explaining it away.

It would be on my list if it didn't sound hideous with my surname.

PerishStorm · 06/01/2012 20:05

I think it is gorgeous, I automatically thought of Edie Sedgewick. I don't think it would be mispronounced and is lovely as a standalone name.

PercyFilth · 06/01/2012 20:23

Edie isn't short for Edwina - that would be Eddie.

JestersHat · 06/01/2012 20:38

I think of it as a nickname. I like the suggestion of Eden, or how about Elodie, Sadie, Lydia?

Kayano · 06/01/2012 20:58

I would call her Eden and Edie as a nn Grin

wants an Eden so badly

jellybeans · 06/01/2012 21:13

I don't like many 'granny chic' names but like this one and Agnes. I like it Edie. But you could go with Eden?

RubyrooUK · 06/01/2012 21:24

Around where I live, Edie is pretty popular. I've never heard anyone think it is a nickname as all the girls are called that as a full name. I think it is lovely.
