You don't get many Veras do you? Is there a good reason? What's the mn verdict...?

I really like it

TopazMortmain · 06/01/2012 09:23

Like but also Duckworth springs to mind so conflicted... Hmm

Methe · 06/01/2012 09:23

I love the name Vera. I look after the elderly and every Vera i have ever met has been an utter treasure :)

usualsuspect · 06/01/2012 09:25

Awful name

WoodyAllenJesus · 06/01/2012 09:25

Topaz yeah me too Confused
I've never in my life known a real Vera though, but it's not too wacky, so I do like it for being a 'real' yet unusual name. Hmm.

Duckworth!

One of the greats of Coronation Street.

usualsuspect · 06/01/2012 10:18

I know a Vera who is in her 50s , she hates her name and is always called V

I don't think a teenager would thank you for a name like Vera tbh

LaLauraDePalmer · 06/01/2012 10:22

Like. A lot.

Also like the idea of a little old lady called 'V'. And a bitty baby called 'VeeVee'.

poppydaisy · 06/01/2012 10:27

I like it. Feminine, classic, underused and travels well into other languages.

Don't know who Vera Duckworth (although have just googled her) is and doubt most youngsters would.

MamaLazarou · 06/01/2012 14:34

I like it. I love 1950's pin-up names. I know a Vera in her twenties, very glamorous with lovely long legs. Her name really suits her. It might sound a bit odd on a baby, but she'll grow into it.

YummyMummybee · 06/01/2012 16:47

Firstly Vera D comes to mind but very good point Poppydaisy she is long gone out of corrie now-I used to work with a Polish Vera so you are correct it is a universal name
Then there is Vera in downton abbey Bates estranged wife-not a great advertisement for the name either tbh

tummytickler · 06/01/2012 18:10

I love Vera - beautiful name and beautiful meaning - faith or truth.

NoHunIntended · 06/01/2012 18:16

Makes me think of en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebeneezer_Goode.

Duckworth.

baubleybobbityhat · 06/01/2012 18:20

Oh, yes, lovely. It will be the new Dorothy or Agnes, mark my words!

Minstrelsaremarvellous · 06/01/2012 19:12

I have a Verity - and her cousins call her Very or Vee. We always get really positive comments about her name - Vera isn't that far off so I'm biased and love it!

mama2moo · 06/01/2012 19:44

One of Dd's middle names is Vera after my Gran. I was a bit worried about telling people because it is an 'old' name now but I love it! It goes so well with her other names and she look like my Gran Smile

mathanxiety · 06/01/2012 19:48

Lovely, comes across as Russian to me.

Snusmumriken · 06/01/2012 19:55

I love it. It is a very popular name in Northern Europe.

PippiLongBottom · 06/01/2012 20:50

Same as nohunintened...

"Anyone get any vera's? Laaaaavvly"

WoodyAllenJesus · 06/01/2012 22:56

minstrels [coming clean] I have a Verity too, trying to find a nn for her as Verity is somewhat of a mouthful. So far we have Vespa, Vee-vee, and my DH calls her Variety which I quite like. I think Vera is pretty good though.

We also get positive comments on her name, and I love it to bits :o
