Thee-ah or Tay-ah?

Either way, lovely.

mrsrvc · 05/01/2012 18:15

I was thinking thee-ah.
An old boss had a daughter with the name and I can't get it out of my head with baby girl due in 2 weeks!

Really pretty name. Wish I'd thought of it for DD

pranma · 05/01/2012 18:55

Would it be short for Dorothea?
Like it either way.

cece · 05/01/2012 18:58

DC2 was going to be called Thea or Alethea but he was a boy. Then DC3 was going to get it but he was also a boy, so never got to use it Sad

Love it.

We say it Thee-a

Wolfiefan · 05/01/2012 19:04

I would assume it was thee ah. Love it! Good luck for two weeks time!

Takver · 05/01/2012 19:06

Love it - would def. say Thee-ah

Like it best as short for Dorothea, Alethea or Althea

JestersHat · 05/01/2012 19:32

I don't like it, sorry. It has a sighing sound to it.

MogTheForgetfulCat · 05/01/2012 19:55

Love it, had it earmarked each time, but 3 x DSs later it remains unused by me Grin. For some reason, not so keen on Theo, so none of the DSs blessed with that one. Do love Thea, though - would go for it! Was the heroine of a slushy period romance I read in hospital aged 15 - she was Dorothea iirc, but always known as Thea, I think just Thea is great.

I love it, would be on my list if we ever have a dd 'Thea Rose' or 'Thea Rosa'

hester · 05/01/2012 23:04

Love it.

Theas18 · 05/01/2012 23:14

What can I say lol!!

Never Tay ah and be prepared for some years of " fee a" from friends with speech immaturities - though it was never a teasing thing.

Everlong- totally agree Smile. A name that grows up beautifully!
( just read my username!)

migratingsouth · 05/01/2012 23:19

The Thea I know pronounces it Tee-ah

mrsrvc · 07/01/2012 22:17

Blimey, an almost totally positive mn response. Now just need to persuade dh. I was set on Elsie until he spent months putting me off, to now say he prefers Elsie! Arrr men...

Or short for Anthea

Offspring · 11/01/2012 03:21

I love Thea.

Elsa a possible compromise?

Montsti · 11/01/2012 08:07

I really don't like it (nor Theo) as just don't like the sound...it reminds me of a boring librarian working in the history section of a library..it would also really irritate me when (and they will) people pronounce it Fee-a...

Along with Theo it seems to be quite "in" at the moment though and as per above comments the majority of MNetters like it - just not to my taste!

Good luck!

squeak2392 · 11/01/2012 12:30

Don't really like it. It would be okay as a nn, but I'm not keen as it is, regardless of my stance on nns as fns.

TruthSweet · 12/01/2012 18:33

I have a Thea, which in her case is short for Alethea. She gets called both though depending on mood Wink her real NN is Theadopolopodus.
