Too many Noahs?

Love the name Noah for a boy, have a girl called Olivia and both names mean peace or rest - something every home with a newborn yearns for!
Would love to call DS on the way Noah but feel like all of a sudden there are a lot about?
I know there are lots of Olivias but I loved it so much that it didn't put me off. Should I think same way for Noah?
Thinking Noah Patrick?
Opinions gratefully accepted!

Noah Patrick is lovely. I'd definitely use it. Noah is a great name.

JestersHat · 03/01/2012 22:48

Noah Patrick is fine, not my taste really but nothing wrong with it. Noah has become popular fairly quickly though - not sure if it will last or become quite dated. But if you like it, use it! :)

HarrietSchulenberg · 03/01/2012 22:51

I love the name Noah. There was someone who was on here years ago who had a ds with that name. I don't know of any round here, but it's lovely, go with it.

Fishpond · 04/01/2012 01:21

I know a million Noah's. Wouldn't use it purely for that if it bothers you.

ahemsexquestion · 04/01/2012 01:26

love it, only know one.

Montsti · 04/01/2012 06:47

I know of quite a few under 4, but personally popularity doesn't bother me however agree with another poster that the name might become dated as a bit "of the moment"...as I don't think it's as classic-popular as Olivia, Oliver, Emily, Thomas etc...

Nice name though and if you love it I would go for it!

comedaygoday · 04/01/2012 09:21

OP I do not know any preschool or school age Noahs, so although it is supposed to be a very popular name, that has not been my experience. We also moved fromo a different part of the country 2 years ago and I did not know any Noahs there either so I really think its popularity depends on where you live. I like it as a name and as the one Noah I do know is in.his late 20s and it's a biblical name I do not think it's faddy or will date badly.

juneau · 04/01/2012 09:28

I agree that if you don't actually know any Noahs, why not use it if you like it? I don't know any Olivias or Noahs, although I know about six Olivers and Williams.

Fayrazzled · 04/01/2012 10:13

I know four Noahs aged under six, so it is very popular and may end up being dated and " of this time". But if you love it go for it. My son has a very popular name, albeit more classic than Noah, and it has never bothered me that there are others with his name. They all become individuals.

3boysgirlontheway · 04/01/2012 10:14

I know lots of Noah's, most are 6 or under, but, at the same time it is a timeless name and sounds so lovely. If you love it, go for it x

zipzap · 04/01/2012 10:24

Ds1 is almost 7 and he is a Noah. It's the most popular name in his year group at school (don't know any of the other years sorry).

When he was born and we chose it, my mum was horrified, she couldn't get her head around Noah being a name that you used, she hadn't ever come across it before. Within a month of us choosing it she had come across not one but 7 other people who were using it for their new babies (ie friends' grandchildren, girl in the hairdresser, someone at the golf club, etc). At which point she gave up her battle against us using such a strange name and instead changed her tune to a preening 'oh yes, I've already got a gs called Noah' Grin

Having said that I still love the name and even though its getting more popular for small boys it's still thought of by most people as being quite unusual and yet a name that everybody has heard of.

Go for it if you love it!

myweeangel · 04/01/2012 11:19

Thanks everyone, hubbie prefers Thomas but I shall work on him!

Littlecherublegs · 04/01/2012 11:58

Noah is lovely - and much better than Thomas!

tummytickler · 04/01/2012 12:52

I know one Noah age 11 and another late teens, but it 'feels' everywhere. I hear it out and about quite a lot.
I prefer Thomas, I have never really been a fan of Noah (despite loving OT names generally).
The best name you have there is Patrick - which is fab. Olivia and Patch sound brilliant together!
But Noah and Olivia sound just fine together, i just prefer the other two.

HarrietSchulenberg · 04/01/2012 16:11

Noah is indeed lovely, but Thomas is better Grin. And ds3 agrees with me!

smithster · 04/01/2012 16:18

A lovely Welsh name which means peace is 'Hedd' and no it's not pronounced 'head' the double d has a soft sound like the th in that but bot like the th in Smith - there is a difference honest. It's a boy's name. just a thought....

smithster · 04/01/2012 16:19

sorry bot = not

SubordinateClaws · 05/01/2012 08:42

There are way too many Noahs. I know three. It's not even a nice name, IMO.

SLVC · 05/01/2012 14:09

It's a lovely name, but I do know about 7 little Noah's, so went for something different for ds.

WhatstheScenario · 05/01/2012 17:56

Gazillions 'round our way. Two in DD's nursery, one in my family, one in DS's class and two friends who have named their children this.

Really dislike it, too. Its bland and bleurgh.

Staceisace · 05/01/2012 19:17

Noah is a really nice name. I wouldn't worry too much about it being 'popular' at the moment - I don't think it will bother him when he's older as much as a less popular name would. It's not as common as William or Thomas etc.

BuntyPenfold · 05/01/2012 23:19

I don't know a single Noah, or know of one of any age: I work in a nursery.

RubyGrace17 · 06/01/2012 12:37

There are 5 Noahs in my school at the moment, all in the infant department. If I had a boy, I would've liked to have called him Noah. DH was not a fan but I think it's lovely.

ViolaCrayola · 06/01/2012 15:21

Love Noah but agree it is trendy in a fairly sudden, of the moment way - other examples that come to mind being Theo, Arthur, Issac, Dylan... all really nice names but everyone decided they were nice at the same time!
Still, it's what happens, so if you love it then go for it - just don't be bothered if you meet others. My DS has a top 50 name (although a bit more long term popular - say 10 years or so) and when we meet others with his name I just think 'how nice, another X', as I love the name, and it totally suits him.

PercyFilth · 07/01/2012 13:20

Noah is very faddy IMO, and I don't believe it has ever been popular to the extent that it is now. Biblical does not = timeless, and Noah is not timeless in the way that many other Biblical names are (Matthew, Daniel, Samuel etc).
