Sounds like an Island of Sodor roll call.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 02/01/2012 23:54

But I do sympathise as am having similar problems, I desperately want to use my grandad's name as a middle name, but it's one of those blasted engines, and most of the first names I like are also bloody trains. But i have a 3 year old ds who is obsessed with Thomas the tank, to someone without that constant association it might sound ok.

AnotherMincepie · 02/01/2012 23:55

Don't like Percy I'm afraid - James is nice though!

Tortoise · 02/01/2012 23:55

Sorry, I thought Thomas the tank engine too.

ThatVikRinA22 · 02/01/2012 23:57

not keen....sorry!

lisaro · 02/01/2012 23:58

Don't like Percy.

butterfliesinmytummy · 03/01/2012 00:00

Percy is a cruel name for a child

butterfliesinmytummy · 03/01/2012 00:06

This is what I was looking for.

ThePoorMansBeckySharp · 03/01/2012 05:42

Percy is HIDEOUS.

3isamagicnumber · 03/01/2012 09:18

No to Percy! James is nice though!!

usualsuspect · 03/01/2012 09:30

Are you serious?

Poor kid

3boysgirlontheway · 03/01/2012 10:02

James is nice, Percy really isn't.

Montsti · 03/01/2012 10:21

I'm afraid I'm not keen on Percy...also 1st thought like others was of Thomas the Tank Engine, but I do have a 2 year old son who is mad about Thomas & Friends!!

CecilyP · 03/01/2012 10:21

Another thumbs down for Percy, I'm afraid. It was popular in 1900 but doubt it is due for a revival any time soon. While I have have never heard it used to refer to genital warts, I did have a colleague who regularly announced he was off to 'point Percy at the porcelain' when he went to the loo. So think Thomas the Tank associations would be the least of your worries.

OTOH, you can't really go wrong with James.

OlympicEater · 03/01/2012 10:23

James = fine
Percy = no

joanofarchitrave · 03/01/2012 10:25

Have you considered Peter? Due for a revival possibly?

CecilyP · 03/01/2012 10:32

Peter is nice. Though not as mega-popular as it was in the 1950s, I know Peters of various ages, so don't think it has ever really gone away.

guinealady · 03/01/2012 10:39

I don't know many Peters who are children right now, but have 2 friends same age as me called Peter and a cousin around 10 years younger. I do like it, but (going with the Lion, Witch and Wardrobe connection) like Edmund even more - would be first choice for a DS if I was having one.

There's also...Piers...yes I know Piers Morgan, but I've known a couple of Piers who were very nice and I think it's a nicer name than Percy. Also: Giles?

mamaLou13 · 03/01/2012 14:18

I wanted something slightly different because my daughter doesn't have a run of the mill name so don't want her brother to have a common name . thanks 4 the feedback though

Sounds like a shop

ShesAStar · 03/01/2012 15:34

Well, I quite liked it until I read the rest of the thread! I had a great-uncle Percy who was called 'Perce' by everyone and we all loved him so I had positive feelings towards the name.

pranma · 03/01/2012 15:58

'pointing percy at the porcelain' means having a wee!
Mind you in America Peter=penis so you cant win really.

aimskidooo · 03/01/2012 16:05

I think Percy is GORGEOUS personally

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/01/2012 16:07

Percy is awful.

Philip James
Terence James
Timothy James (might be a bit too Dickensian?)
Laurence James
Vincent James
Even Quentin is better than Percy.

MrsBovary · 03/01/2012 16:33

I'd have said it was dreadul at one time, but actually rather like it now.
