Finally got dp to begin to think about baby names last night, one name I left off my list as it doesn't fit our criteria of being a name not a thing was Rosie which I like. Dp however said he liked the name Rose which I was shocked about but relieved there is actually a name out there that he likes! anyway.... Please can I have opinions on these names which do you prefer? Dd nearly 2 is Evie. Thanks

I prefer Rose.

ggirl · 02/01/2012 21:22

My 20yr old dd is Rose , never Rosie.
Fab name

bruffin · 02/01/2012 21:24

Won't Rose become a Rosie anyway? DS is 16 and has a few Rosies as friends but I think the are mainly Rosemarys

EllieSpoon · 02/01/2012 21:30

Hi, We have a Rosie (christened as Rose) so obviously we think it is a lovely name, I guess Rose is a traditional English name and Rosie is more informal and freindly. Our Rosie had rosy cheeks when she was born and my Husnad bought me a bottle of Rose bubbly when she was born and before we had a name. And Rosie and Evie sounds good - we have Rosie, Annie, & Charlie.
Thats my very biased opinion anyway - good luck

BitchyHen · 02/01/2012 21:33

I have a Rose too. She used to get called Rosie but now she is nearly 14 she thinks Rose is more mature.

Ohnanawhatsmynickname · 02/01/2012 21:36

I love Rose - it was going to be DC2s name had he not been a boy Smile.
Very pretty name.

OlympicEater · 02/01/2012 21:37

Rose is a fairly common middle name among the DCs that I know, but so pretty as a first name. I would go with Rose and then Rosie as a nn

startail · 02/01/2012 22:01

Rose. The Rosie (she's never Rosemary) in my family is the youngest, smallest, prettiest and even as a married adult cutest of her generation. She just is a Rosie and that's the problem ie endings are a bit cute.
The Susie from collage is Sue in the office.

swanfall · 03/01/2012 12:40

I'd go with Rose and Rosie as a nn, then she can insist on Rose later in life if she wants to. I think they are both lovely, but Rosie for an adult is a bit too cute and girly, unless it really suits her, iyswim.

helebeth · 03/01/2012 13:33

Just to give a different idea. I have a third christian name after my grandmother. ROSALIA (pronounced rosa-leah or rose-ah-leah)

Listzilla · 03/01/2012 15:57

We have a Róisín who's known as Rosie. She's little and cutesy now so it suits her perfectly and she has the option of the more serious version when she gets older.

I think it goes very nicely with Evie.

pranma · 03/01/2012 16:00

My dgd[11] is Rosie [christened Rosie] she is beautiful, clever and good so of course I love the name :)

Lightshines · 03/01/2012 16:06

I would go with Rose (my DDs middle name but that is irrelevant) - it will inevitably get shortened to Rosie for a young child, but at least with Rose your DD will have some flexibility.

JentlyDoesIt · 03/01/2012 16:11

Love Rose, then nn Rosie Smile I have a cousin who is Rosalind if that's any help...

Smugfearnleyshittingstool · 03/01/2012 16:11

My sis is Rowena, she's always been Rosie as a child /teen but a college became Ro, and has used that since.( we have always pronounced it ro-enna, not roweena)

Takver · 03/01/2012 16:20

Agree Rosie for a baby with the option of Rose as a 'grown up' name is great.

Rosa is also a lovely alternative - the couple I've known have always been Rosa not Rosie though.

oikopolis · 03/01/2012 16:36

Rose is stunning. Go with that, you can always nn her Rosie.

tentative123 · 03/01/2012 16:47

Rosie is our choice if this one is a girl ( short for rosemary) at the mo. Evie is my fav name for a second girl... i say go for it... my question is - what are rosies brothers called?

LadyWellian · 03/01/2012 16:49

I'd say Rose, definitely. It's a really beautiful name, yet underused in comparison to Rosie, which of course you can have as a nickname if you like it.

BettyBedlam · 03/01/2012 18:07

I like Rose with Rosie as I nn. I also like Rosa.

Clandy · 03/01/2012 19:05

Tentative: Rosie doesn't have any brothers!! Grin this one is the last!! Struggling for boys names massively so if this is a boy it may not even get a name...

Don't like Rosemary or others like Rosaline although had not considered a longer option so will run them by DP and see what he thinks. I think I will add both to the list for now! Thanks for taking the time to reply ladies Smile
