My heart says Inigo but my head says Leo... What do you think of both these names? Or other similar ones?

I don't much like either, but would definitely go for Leo for the child's sake.
Much as I love The Princess Bride, it's not great that it's the first thing you think of when you hear Inigo. Why not go for Fezzik?

BarfAndHeave · 01/01/2012 19:40

I don't know any Leo's but I know an Inigo and he's lovely and the name really suits him.

Leo. Inigo will be mistaken for Indigo, people will assume it is meant to be that but is written incorrectly.

NotnOtter · 01/01/2012 19:44

Inigo definitely
Leo will be as common as Theo soon and you'll regret it

nikster · 01/01/2012 20:00

Love Leo - was on my list until my cousin named her boy Leon.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/01/2012 20:31

'Inigo will be mistaken for Indigo, people will assume it is meant to be that but is written incorrectly.' Surely not everybody is that dim though? Lockets isn't the only person who knows who Inigo Jones was! And Inigo is a name - unlike Indigo.

cairnterrier · 01/01/2012 20:33

I also thought of Inigo Jones (am not sure who Inigo Montoyo is) but I still misread the name as Indigo. Sorry.

NotnOtter · 01/01/2012 20:33

and who cares anyway? I've always had to spell my name it matters to me not one jot nor ever has

zipzap · 01/01/2012 21:23

Love inigo. Was on the list of names i couldnt convince dh to go For along with Ptolemy, jethro and Seth. Also like Orlando someone ellse mentioned.

Don't like Leo.

AgathaPinchBottom · 01/01/2012 21:38

Absolutely go with Inigo, it is a brilliant name.

MrsDobalina · 01/01/2012 21:54

Leo is lovely but really popular round here. I LOVE Inigo. A friend called their DS Inigo and we were Envy we hadn't thought of it for our DS. Afaik no-one has called him Indigo, quoted Princess Bride at him or thought he was pretentious!

ProfessorSunny · 01/01/2012 22:32

you would be surprised Remus! People are daft when it comes to spelling names that they think are "weird".

hohohoshedittant · 02/01/2012 06:36

I know an Inigo. His parents aren't Spanish or pretentious they just liked the name.

I never thought of The Princess Bride, AFAIK no-one has ever commented on it (though may have thought it). TBH even if people do think of The Princess Bride when they hear it, so what? I watched the clip from the link and can't see the massive problem? If Inigo Montoya was a serial killer or dictator or something I'd avoid, but a character from 1980's kids film?

The Inigo I know does always get called Indigo though. The poor kids spends his life going 'NO, not Indigo, no 'd', just Inigo!'.

Don't like Leo.

FiveBells · 02/01/2012 06:54

I LOVE Inigo, wanted it for DS2 but DH vetoed it Hmm. Don't know the Princess Bride reference, always think of Inigo Jones. Dont care for Leo

babyincubator · 02/01/2012 09:23

Thanks all for your comments! I'm feeling very ignorant as DH and I both had never heard of Inigo Montoya before mumsnet - we're 30 so perhaps too young to have watched the film as kids... Still undecided as to whether I have the guts to choose/ I would regret the name Inigo...

I have watched the Princess Bride more than once and I wouldn't think of it when meeting a child called Inigo.

SoupDragon · 02/01/2012 09:31

My first thought was Inigo Jones.

SoupDragon · 02/01/2012 09:33

"Inigo will be mistaken for Indigo, people will assume it is meant to be that but is written incorrectly"

That is hilarious. "People" won't assume that, the vast majority will be able to get it right. only the thickos who don't count would think it is meant to be Indigo.

ViolaCrayola · 02/01/2012 11:53

It's a good idea to imagine a full grown man with a certain name. An obvious point maybe but often overlooked.
I find it a tiny bit hard to imagine a man called Inigo (who is not Spanish) but then again I too thought of Inigo Jones... a great namesake.
He would have people saying 'sorry? Indigo?' his whole life, but then that's true of lots of names (in other ways!). Tricky, as it's lovely, no doubt.
There are other o names too - Hugo? Jago?
