Just wondering what people thought of the name Casper? It's in discussion for DS2, DS1 is Samuel. not sure if it's too unusual. Does anyone know any?

The Friendly Ghost?

Cute but not sure I'd use it.

LaFilleSurLePont · 31/12/2011 16:09

Love it. I know one. He's nine and loves his name.

In German a Kasper is a well known punch & judy and kaspern means to be silly, so not a good name in German speaking countries.

sonniebonnie · 31/12/2011 16:13

And casser means to break in french and je/te casse means I/you break so again not great in a French speaking context. But feel free to ignore me if you're in the UK Smile

I had thought of friendly ghost!! It's also a reasonably popular name in Holland where DH is from, one of the only ones I can pronounce!

So you'd probably not have used the nickname Cass, would you?

I meant that they probably would not have used the nickname Cass when living in France. Again, please feel free ignore me, I'm probably not representative, being German and having lived in France and now in the UK Smile.

I like it! And I know a German Kasper.

MigratingCoconutsInTheNewYear · 31/12/2011 16:38

I know three, ranging from 45 to 11 in age. Its a lovely name. Often spelt caspar too.

I'm in England btw

osaraf · 31/12/2011 16:42

Probably wouldn't have used it in France, we chose DS1's name as it worked in all three languages. Not planning to go back to France though and have no links with Germany. Smile

and don't forget it was the name of one of those three wise men... can't be a bad reccomendation, now can it!!

howlongwilltheynap · 31/12/2011 18:05

I soooo wanted a Caspar, but it didn't pass the 'playground test' for me (ie I would feel silly calling it out). But I wish I had gone for it, I would like a 3rd DS purely to call him Caspar (which is obviously a stupid basis to have a child so my Caspar will never exist!).

Oh and on the german thing - I knew a swiss german little boy called Kasper (not sure of spelling) which is in fact why I fell for the name.

osaraf · 31/12/2011 18:24

Thanks howlong, I have a supermarket test!! Grin
