I love this name for a girl and lots of people name their children after Shakespearean characters, don't they?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AwayinaKayzr · 29/12/2011 13:56

It sounds to much like Hernia to me. Like they need an operation. Sorry

Marrow · 29/12/2011 13:58

NO! I thought it was a typo and I was clicking on a message in Health about a hernia. Sorry!

Arwhen · 29/12/2011 13:58

But wasn't Hermione the Shakespearian character? And yes, sounds like hernia.

thisisyesterday · 29/12/2011 13:59

it sounds like hernia

Ava123 · 29/12/2011 14:00

Oh noo, I didn't even think of that..and she was a character in a midsummer night's dream.

Hernia never crossed my mind. I thought of Midsummer Nights Dream.
Hermia is a lovely name.
( autocorrect is against it though, and tried to change it to hernia Hmm)

Collision · 29/12/2011 14:06

Hermione is pretty

Persephone is pretty

Hermia is wrong! too hernia-ish!

silverfrog · 29/12/2011 14:17

the first thing I thought of was Midsummer Night's Dream.

yes, it visually looks a lot like hernia, but it didn't occur to me, tbh.

I think though, that you would get a lot of people who had not come across the name in a Shakespearian context who would just htink 'wtf?!", and so I wouldn't use it.

candytuft63 · 29/12/2011 14:24

Miranda ? Pretty name form The Tempest.

smithster · 29/12/2011 14:33

first thing i thought was hernia, sorry. if they should be a big girl too could be unforunate...

FreckledLeopard · 29/12/2011 14:34

Sorry - also thought it said 'hernia' at first glance.

cece · 29/12/2011 14:38

Really unpretty - reminds me of either a hernia or Hermon munster...

south345 · 29/12/2011 14:40

Sounds like hernia to me, hermione is nice though.

WoodyAllenJesus · 29/12/2011 14:41

I loved Miranda for a girl til that lumbering unfunny woman on the telly came along...

pipoca · 29/12/2011 14:44

Or, Hero from Much Ado about Nothing?

3isamagicnumber · 29/12/2011 16:54

No, dont like it sorry. I did think Shakespeare but that was closely followed by Hernia!!

How about:
Cordelia
Helena
Hermione
Titania
Juliette

??

Tortington · 29/12/2011 16:56

hernia

even looks like hernia at a glance

Ihatepeas · 29/12/2011 17:59

Not keen sorry.

bonbonpixie · 30/12/2011 00:19

I think if it goes with your surname and you love it then why not?? I love the unusual when it comes to names and it's not like it doesn't have a wonderful heritage.
At university there were three girls with exactly the same fore name and surname as mine and neither are particularly common so I say go for it!!

imaginethat · 30/12/2011 07:09

Oh I'm all for going with the name you love but it is v close to Hernia and she would probably be teased.

Ava123 · 30/12/2011 12:37

I do love Hermione but i worry about the Harry Potter link, although that wouldn't be as bad as hernia :s

OP posts:
CecilyP · 30/12/2011 17:49

Yes, could easily be misread for Hernia. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

mumzy · 30/12/2011 20:18

Hermia is lovely, a derivative of Hermione

Kelly281 · 30/12/2011 20:42

Not keen on Hermia, like others have said it reminds me too much of Hernia, sorry. Hermione is pretty though.
