Have finally chosen a name for ds1 (due April) likely to be born by cs in March. We have decided on Zack but not sure on which spelling we prefer. I know Zack is the most common (I think) but there is also Zac and Zak -

Opinions please (Don't like Zachary btw)

Zak is the dutch word for pocket if that helps your decision.

strandednomore · 26/12/2011 18:21

I think I like Zac better than Zack. But everyone would probably assume it was a shortening of Zachary, which they might not do with Zack.

lljkk · 26/12/2011 18:22

That's too bad, because if you go with Zac/Zack/Zak you are going to hear Zachary A LOT. I hope you can make the corrections/tolerate the assumption/listen to the things his mates make up with good humour.

I would go with Zack if that is the most common. Though lots of bureaucrats will assume it's a typo/misrecorded & really Jack.

LynetteScavo · 26/12/2011 18:24

Zack makes it seem like a name in it's own right, rather than a shortening of Zachary.

akiwijinglebells · 26/12/2011 18:30

I know 4 Zac/k/chs

Zac and Zack short for Zachary,

Zach short for Zachariah
Zach which is as it is.

I like the way Zac and Zach looks.

akiwijinglebells · 26/12/2011 18:32

I ment Like the way Zack and Zach look. Zac just look incomplete to me and make me think it is a nn for Zachary.

MissHonkover · 26/12/2011 19:39

I like Zach the best, for me all the variations are diminutives anyway, so it wouldn't matter which longer name they implied.

Zack doesn't look right to me, as the K doesn't belong in the longer versions.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 26/12/2011 19:43

I like Zac if it's a shortening and Zack if it's his full name :) Seems to me to keep it clear.

strictlovingmum · 26/12/2011 19:48

Zach-Zachariah very strong Historical name, I love it.
Zac or Zak too short for the first name, it's more of a nickname for me.Smile

Lakota · 26/12/2011 19:51

I have a Zac - but his full name is Isaac

SardineJam · 26/12/2011 20:38

I like the Zach spelling, agree that Zac looks incomplete

CharlieCoCo · 27/12/2011 15:40

Zach as a full name

KatieMistletoe · 27/12/2011 15:45

Zac is my preferred version - but I have a Joe who is just Joe.

Only one person has tried to call him Joseph. He ignored her because his name is Joe Grin

BoxingBiddy · 27/12/2011 16:04

Zach

3boysgirlontheway · 27/12/2011 19:05

Zach for me.

tammytoby · 27/12/2011 22:41

I'm not keen on any as they all sounds like Sack, sorry.

I do like Zachariah or Zachary.

cece · 27/12/2011 22:44

Zack and Zach just look wrong to me. I like Zac spelling best.

Be aware though that if you use a nn as a real name people will lengthen it. Happens to my DC3 all the time! He is only 2 but it annoys me a little more each time people call him the longer version; that is not his name! Arghhh.

icapturethecastle · 27/12/2011 22:48

I prefer Zach - just be prepared for lots of different spellings of cards, letters etc and make sure it doesn't annoy you.

jellybeans · 28/12/2011 19:08

My favourites in order are Zac, ZaK, Zach, Zack. I know a Zac, Zach x 2, Zack. I thought Zak was the most popular spelling followed by Zac, Zack and Zach. I prefer Zac as the 'c' ending softens it abit.

jellybeans · 28/12/2011 19:11

-Also I think it is fine as a stand alone name. If you add up all the spellings, more people use Zac than Zachary but they are counted seperately. It is more a short form than nickname also.
