baby girl one week old and nameless- panic setting in...

So, we did spend the last few months of pregnancy struggling and failing to come up with a girl's name, but since we felt pretty convinced that it was boy anyway, and had a boy's name we loved, I wasn't too worried... then our little surprise girl arrived!

Now in the haze of sleep deprivation, we're beginning to panic. Everything sounds wrong, nothing seems right. Help, please?

The boy's name we had in mind was Bram, and we already have a DD named Juniper, just to give you a sense for what orbit we're in. We'd like a longer name with nickname option.

Some names we've considered but blocked on (with apologies in advance for stepping on people's toes with my comments).

Cleo, short for Cleopatra or Clementine-
every time I try it out, I mix it up with Chloe in my mind..also, fear it's becoming very popular

Saskia, with the nickname Kia -
just doesn't seem to fit baby somehow (in looks)

Twyla (as in Twlya Tharpe)

Willa, nickname Billie
I'm not crazy about the W sound, DH likes it, but worries about playground
'Willie' teasing potential...possibly Sybil/Billie

Indigo, with nickname Indie/ or Indira/Indie
A little too hippy-ish for me

Ivy
Doesn't sound great with surname, seems a little too breezy and short to me for an adult woman

other names that have come up in the past-- Linden, Pascale, Petra, Eliza

I'd love to hear any thoughts people have about these but also any ideas you have based on what we've been thinking...I'm hoping something here will help job my brain into action!

Kerenza is nice, but more likely to get Kenny or Kerry in the playground.

Liluri · 23/12/2011 18:53

Poor little nameless creature! Grin
I do hope you've plumped for something - surely you must think that a couple of names suit her by now?

Hero, Violet and Clementine (with Clemmy for short) are all great suggestions, imo.

humblehippo · 23/12/2011 20:28

Bryony was the first name that came to mind for me when reading your post. What about Tamsin, Rowan, Keziah, Kerenza, Fern, Emmeline, Daria, Elisha, Hester, Nerys, Kaya, Milena?

From the ones you have listed I really like Saskia and Eliza. Billie is also nice.

Thanks so much for the input, everyone. Spent all day trying to call her Kerenza and various offshoots but it didn't really click. I'm not even sure what I'm looking for anymore (aside from some sleep!)

I like a lot of the suggestions but many sound lousy with our surname, which starts with R and is unusual and something of a mouthful.

Interesting how much everyone seems to dislike Twyla- was a leading contender!

How about Hera or Hero (can't remember if I've already posted on this thread!) or Aurora nn Rori?

Mmmnotsure · 23/12/2011 22:59

How about you stop worrying for a little while, and give yourself a few days off? Come back to it fresh after Christmas. You can just call her baby girl for a while - she won't mind. Lots of babies don't get named until just before the six week 'deadline' like us.

4madboys · 23/12/2011 23:19

yes dont worry about it too much, two of my children didnt have a name for over 2 weeks! another one was a week old as well!

my dd is merryn, she was almost genevieve or astrid and saskia was also on our list.

oh and as my dd was born 5th dec and then didnt have a name for over 2wks and then it was xmas/new year we almost didnt register her in time and got a reminder through the post!

am sure you will find the right name, just enjoy her and try and get a bit of sleep, have a happy christmas with your new addition :)
