Love the name Tess but not to keen on Teresa and think Tess should be short for something rather than on its own - any ideas of what else it could be a short form or nickname of?

Tessa

pigsinmud · 14/12/2011 11:13

Well my dc4 is just Tess. I don't like Tessa or Teresa. I am a bit worried by all these threads about the name Tess - why is it suddenly becoming popular?! I don't know any other children called Tess in rl.

GrimmaTheNome · 14/12/2011 11:15

Countess? Grin well if people are foolish enough to name a child Princess, its only a matter of time...

AnotherMincepie · 14/12/2011 14:22

It's short for Teresa - that's the name it was derived from.

ThoseClementineShoes · 14/12/2011 16:39

Therese rather than Theresa?
Elizabeth?

Something like:
Charlotte Samantha or other S name
Harriet Esperanza

Or just go for Tess if that's what you want to call her!

ThoseClementineShoes · 14/12/2011 16:41

Or the name of a famous countess if you're not brave enough to go for just Countess!

civilfawlty · 14/12/2011 16:45

It is short for elizabeth.

LaTristesse · 14/12/2011 20:32

I know an adult Anastasia nn Tess.

PastGrace · 14/12/2011 20:35

Could you get away with Natasha?

winterfox · 14/12/2011 20:36

theresa?

tammytoby · 14/12/2011 22:14

Love some of the suggestions... you might as well call her Charlotte or Eleanor and nickname her Tess Grin.

AnotherMincepie · 14/12/2011 22:46

Agree with tammytoby

Janoschi · 15/12/2011 03:35

Tethys? If you want something ancient and a bit strange...? LOVE this name but DH vetoed it.

LittleSF · 15/12/2011 09:04

Thanks everyone. I think Teresa or Therese is the only valid one really (interesting that Elizabeth is mentioned - I had heard of that being shortened to Bess but not Tess). I think I would chose Therese or just go for Tess.

It's always been one of my favourite names, think it's just lovely.

Anyone has any further suggestions do add them on. Thanks again.

Thessaly

Thessaly is lovely, trying to get it past DH will be a challenge! But beautiful, thank you so much.

My Tess is just called Tess.

Although we normally call her TessTess...

Zaziedanslemetro · 16/12/2011 20:53

According to some, Tess can be short for Esther (along with Essie, Ettie, etc). We have an Esther, and I wondered if we might shorten it so looked into different possibilities. Although for the moment we just use Esther. Or little sausage Xmas Smile
