Hoskins or Hosking

It is a family middle name. But as names do they get changed/altered though the years by people and spellings

So both appear in members of my family as middle names - always a middle name for a boy (I presume someone once married one and used it as a middle name for a son - but that is pretty far back)

So I'll open it up to you lot

Hoskins or Hosking

Well both are surnames that sound like surnames. I do think Hoskin sounds better as a mn.

Well it is a surname (and has never been used as a fn in my family) and have no problem with a surname as a mn - I have one and I love it plus a lot of surnames are also fn and vise versa.

Fair point about Hoskin but I actually kind of wanted one of those 2 versions that are in my family. Ta

what is the most recent version used - ie if you have a brother what does he have or your dad or uncle?
Use that one.

Which is worse? Hosking

but both dire so I'm not sure it'll make that much difference tbh

Will he have two mn? Like a proper name mn and then a surname mn or just Hoskins.

Hosking sounds more like a verb -- something obscure and old fashioned and agricultural. Or maybe something from the world of Morris dancing.

I would pick Hoskins.
