For a girl. Thoughts and feelings please.

We I are considering Darcy Ava if bump turns out to be a girl. We have a rather strong, not too common surname beginning with a Gr.

D'arcy = arsey and, a bit of a personal one, but I can't stand the 'whistling through teeth' sound that you sometimes get inadvertantly with the 's' sound (for this reason detest celsius, for centigrade) and in that sense it reminds me of Chelsea.

Otherwise somehow quite genderless in a stylish way. Makes me think of Dulcie.

People, I really think you are being harsh here. If you met Darcey Bussell you wouldn't go, oo, what an awful name YOU have!

lottiegb · 12/12/2011 15:33

No, but I did think 'what an odd name' when she first came to prominence - it's the combination though, with bustle being part of a dress designed to protrude over the arse!

The 'arsey' thing emerges more from a surname, as may be / have been D'arcey, it's not really what I'd think on meeting a Darcie but did spring to mind as had been used as a family 'joke name'.

Get0rf · 12/12/2011 15:41

I donm't like it - it sounds rather clunky imo and I think it will date. Very popular around here, not exactly common (in a perjorative sense) but not an unusual name by any means.

foolserrand · 13/12/2011 20:31

Wow! No kidding its a marmite name. May avoid putting the our other choices up here as I'm somewhat hormonal and am apparently unable to take constructive criticism. Darcy/ey/ie or however we decide to spell the name, is still our top runner for a girl but who knows, the scan on Thursday may tell us to get ready for ds2 and then we have a whole new set of problems.

Don't take it personally - it's only strangers on the internet. Smile You have to pick the name you like best. We had two back up girls names, but Darcey was always our favourite, and it was the best name for her.

We have got all sorts of spellings on Christmas cards though... Darcy, Darcie, Darcee, D'arcy, D'arcie. Meh

PercyFilth · 20/12/2011 21:18

I dislike it, I see it as an affected made-up sort of name. Probably because it really comes from a surname and I tend not to like surnames as forenames.

ThatVikRinA22 · 20/12/2011 21:18

for a girl this is one of my fave names, i love it ever since i met an old lady called Darcie.

my other fave for a girl is Nico, there is a singer (female) with the same surname as us by the name of Nico and i love it. goes with our name so well i wish id known about it when i had DD!

ABumDance · 20/12/2011 21:30

I think it is a beautiful name fools It is really dainty. I also like Dulcie which seems to be becoming more popular.

vanfurgston · 21/12/2011 19:28

i love it

candytuft63 · 21/12/2011 19:40

I really like it. Very pretty. Mind the spelling though..
please none of these
D'Arcy
Darsee
et al..
Dulcie is nice as well, sort of dainty.

Pudgy2011 · 24/12/2011 02:38

Darcy was my front running name for a girl and I've always loved it - unfortunately with a surname ending in -ay- we couldn't use it :-(

Had a boy in the end though!

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 24/12/2011 03:06

Hate it, sorry. Doesn't look or sound nice.

savoycabbage · 24/12/2011 03:10

Dulcie is nice. There are three darcys at our school. All boys though.

I'm not one for surnames as names much. Like Tyler.

savoycabbage · 24/12/2011 06:01

I don't mean I like Tyler, I mean it's like Tyler.

bumasbigasthetv · 24/12/2011 07:28

Its become v popular here too, I know 5 babies called Darcy/Darcey/Darcie, all born within the last 12 months. That being said if you really like it use it. I choose a v popular name for my daughter because i loved it.

shesparkles · 24/12/2011 07:33

Love it! I only know of an adult Darsey locally x

mumzy · 24/12/2011 09:36

It's a bit like Tracey started off as a upperclass name then hijacked by others and ended up with every other child being called it.
