Female twins, too hormonal to choose!

Right. I have the world's most boring name and always promised myself if I had a girl she would have something much more individual. And now I'm having two. And the problem is I think hormones are making me err on the side of exotic princesses when (here's hoping) both young ladies will stand up in front of a boardroom one day and should be taken seriously...so have reined back on the Scarletts and Anastasias and Guineveres and trying to have names with a pedigree that are still pretty.

Surname is one syllable, beginning with a 'w'. I would like the middle name to be something to do with our family (Beatrice or Olivia) or Scottish (Iona, Isla etc, they can take away my freedom and all that...) OR (DP thinks I'm mad) the boat we conceived on which was Liberty, or my childhood pets were Lucy and Freya.

Names were hard enough with DS and he's a boy and there's only one, so please help. DP is of the 'what's wrong with Emma/Claire/Sophie/Kate/Pippa/insert every current name which would make them one of 10 in the classroom).

Being twins, don't want them starting with the same letter, both ending in 'y' or 'ie' or, worst, completely rhyming. Trisyllabic works well with the surname, but a lot of them like Annabel are a bit popular. DP likes it when they can be shortened to a boys' name (issues ;) )

So...

Polly
Sally
Francesca (Frankie for short)
Charlotte (boring, but like Charlie/Lottie)
Harriet (Harry)
Penelope (Penny)
Estella (Stella/Ellie)
Is everyone going to be called Philippa/Pippa?

I also like: Nancy, Kitty, Belinda (Billie), Carmel, Serena, Dulcie, Elizabeth (if shortened to Betsy/Lizzie/Eliza), Florence (Flora, Florrie/Floss) and Darcey.

Nice problem to have though :)Thank you ladies x

Oo so much food for thought! Thank you so much ladies. Will sit with post it notes and move them round and inform you of the decision - despite the fact I'll probably change my mind when they pop out and they'll be Cagney and Lacey ;)

Congrats dreamfeeder! Choose Elliot!

I know a Sarah who's nickname Sally. Then you could have Sarah Harriet and get your Harriet and your Sarah.
Although Florence Harriet is nice too

dreamfeeder · 05/12/2011 22:33

Thanks stinkingbishop! My stepbrother has a son 3 months older than my dd called Elliot though, bit close... And wierd that if ours had been girls we had charlotte, Harriet as number one favourite, freya and francesca on our list!!

What about ilsa for one of their middle names? Is that Scottish or have I gone a bit mad? Also like esme, ayse (pronounced aay-sher)

JesusChristBenton · 05/12/2011 22:41

Florence and Elizabeth nn Flora and Eliza. Lovely.

Also like Penelope nn Penny.

Ishbel is nice. What about Ishbel and Esme?

getawiggleon · 05/12/2011 22:46

Anna and Juliet
Florence and Elizabeth
Lucy and Clara

getawiggleon · 05/12/2011 22:47

Right, stop posting peeps, you have given me MORE names, I am going to pop!!!

I LOVE Isla Smile what about Kirsty? Tis a Scottish name too I think...?

krustyloaf · 05/12/2011 23:24

Oh and DS has 2 middle named and double barrelled surname, just in case he becomes a count or something...

reallacecurtains · 06/12/2011 05:51

Wow, congratulations!

Name heaven: (of your names)

Penelope (dm's lovely name - named after a ship!- with nn Penny, but Nell as a nn is simply divine)

And Elizabeth - but I'd choose nn Betty, so very chicly retro.

Used to love Polly in the 70s/80s as had a very lovely bf by the name but gone off it in the wake of early noughties Milly/ Molly popularity.

For the record, my dd2 is Daphne. If I had a future dd I'd love Penelope, after dm, but for twins there's rather an 'ee' overload.

Kitty and Florence (Kitty could be Katherine).
