What are everyone's thoughts on Finn? I don't want a really common name but I'm struggling to find a boys name we both like. Thanks :) xx

I know at least five little Fin/Finns: Finnian, Finley (x2), Finlay, Finton, so yes it has become a very popular/trendy name.

3 month old DS is Flynn, which I love. Didn't realise it is popular and "of the moment" until another couple at older DS nursery had a second boy the same week as we did and chose the same name. (no discussion with them, the two boys did different nursery days, so have never met them)

4 yr old DS is Archie. Love, love, love it but again it is described here as "of the moment".

It's the best name in the world and was shamelessly stolen from me by my big sister for her ds1, grrrrr Wink

My boy is Finlay so I love it Smile

As you can see, OP, it has become very, very popular! That's what happens with fashionable things/names/clothes - we all follow the same trends, until we all tire of them, and they fall 'out of fashion' again Smile.

I have recently learned that the popularity of Finn my have something to do with a character from 'Glee'
I have never seen it but heard the name years ago a character from hollyoaks and kept note.
Who really cares if a name is 'trendy'?
If you like a name, use it

"Who really cares if a name is 'trendy'"

The child may care if it has to share his/her name with lots of others in a class, and the child may care if his/her name dates badly as it falls out of fashion (along the lines of Sharon or Wayne).

thebigkahuna · 30/11/2011 18:32

People always say the same name as xx number of people in the class thing as if it's necessarily bad.

I remember a group of three Lucys at school who absolutely loved sharing a name. I was quite jealous of them (with my stoopid, unusual for NE England welsh name).

thebigkahuna · 30/11/2011 18:33

Sorry, forgot to say go for it! Love Finn.

pranma · 30/11/2011 19:14

I really really love it-my current favourite boy's name and only know 2.Finlay is much more common but Finn on its own is a gem of a name.
