unique/different names?

We are expecting our second baby and are looking for a "different" name as we dont want a child who has 5 other classmates with the same name but we also dont want them to be picked on or bullied for their name either. Has anyone any suggestions?

20yo DS is a Dexter and we haven't met another his age. DN is Fergus and as far as I know he hasn't come across another one (he is six) :)

Judging by a lot of the threads on this topic, if you want your child to be the only one in their class with their name, I would go for something humdrum normal:

Matthew
Richard
Anthony
Andrew

Mary
Claire
Emma
Sarah

I'm sure in some areas there could be 5 Jagos/Ophelias in a class!

You can't ever guarantee that the name will be unique: I know several children of seven of the names posted above (Fergus, Dexter, Matthew and Emma being the most frequently encountered).

So the first thing OP might like to do is steel herself for the possibility that sod's law means that whatever name she chooses, there will be another one in the same street.

But if you mean simply less frequent, rather than trying to be unique, then there how about:

Andrew, Peter, Stephen, Edmond, Neil, Edwin, Rupert, Dominic, Graeme, Hamilton, Jeremy, Lemuel, Viktor, Desmond?

Bryony, Maura, Jean, Margaux, Jennifer, Miriam, Penelope, Hilary, Ruth, Stephanie, Gladys, Edwina, Flavia, Joanna, Lisette, Yvonne?

I really like Dexter and dont know of any here. I named my DD Carmen because i wanted a name that wasnt very common, and so far i havent bumped into any Carmens :)

our first one is Alexandra (seemingly very uncommon at the usual) and gets shortened to Lexie (which wasn't all that common until the year after she was born where everyone was choosing that name, with varying spellings). Fortunately having the name Alexandra she can choose from a variety of 'nicknames' when she is older which is a bit of a relief tbh.

We just dont want our children to be ones who have been lumbered with some of the most commonly chosen names but although our personalities arent exactly the most "normal", we dont want our childrens names to be waaaay out there, just a tad different.

that was meant to say seemingly very uncommon at the moment...no idea where "usual" came from
