Feel free to be brutal. It could just be hormones but I really like Alastair. We currently have a DS age 4 called Joseph and love his name so much we are struggling to find another name we love as much.

Love it, though I prefer Alistair, I have one! Always get positive comments on it, especially from old ladies who are used to seeing babies with names they've never heard before Smile

Marinn · 26/11/2011 12:38

It's very nice. Not unusual but not popular, usually a winning combination. I think Euan is of a similar ilk and also nice.

TheFallenMadonna · 26/11/2011 12:43

Love it. And love that spelling. Had DD been a boy, she would have been Alastair

Montsti · 26/11/2011 12:57

Like it. Also prefer the Alastair spelling..

Kaekae · 26/11/2011 16:44

Yes, I love it.

talkingnonsense · 26/11/2011 16:48

Love it but prefer the spelling Alasdair.

mybootsaremuddy · 26/11/2011 16:54

Lovely name. It was on short list for one of our DTs if they had both turned out to be boys but we had B/G twins....... would have been spelt Alasdair though(after dhs ggf).

lalabaloo · 03/12/2011 22:01

I really liked it and it was on our shortlist but I couldn't imagine myself calling a little one that, still a lovely name and it was my weirdness that meant we have changed our mind not anything negative about the name!

OriginalPoster · 03/12/2011 22:08

Baby Al

I like it!

Marenostrum · 04/12/2011 17:54

Go for it, it is nice and not common without being silly. I also prefer the Alasdair spelling though.

Willabywallaby · 04/12/2011 18:09

We spell it Alistair, and he is little Al!

kindling · 04/12/2011 20:27

Love it, the Alasdair spelling especially.

EauRouge · 04/12/2011 20:40

Alasdair was on my shortlist for DC2 but DH vetoed it Angry but then she turned out to be a girl anyway. Al is a fab nn.

BlueChampagne · 05/12/2011 12:41

Would have been on my list had we not had 2 in the family (one on each side) already!

stinkingbishop · 05/12/2011 14:58

It's lovely lovely LOVELY. Was my GF's name, is DS' middle name, was going to be one of the twins' first names but they're both girls!

He spelt it Alastair, so that's how I'm used to it, but with a 'd' is fine I think too.

Good Celtic roots, and he can shorten it to Ali or Al if he wants.

Jealous!

howlongwilltheynap · 05/12/2011 15:21

My baby brother is Alasdair, it was a lovely name for him as a baby and a little boy, and obviously still lovely now he is a big hulking grown up thing!

We pronounce is as it is spelt (as opposed to alistair usually pronounced 'alister').

proudfoot · 06/12/2011 20:14

Love it!

jeanjeannie · 06/12/2011 21:16

Love the name - either spelling Xmas Smile
