Elizabeth as a sister for William?

Every girl's name I come up with seems to have something wrong with it! I wanted Catherine, but I think that's impossible as my DS is called William. How about Elizabeth? Too regal a combination?

Ohhh you can't beat a bit of 'regal'.

I think William and Elizabeth sounds great. Lots of lovely nn's too!

Psammead · 24/11/2011 19:54

I think it's fine.

MelinaM · 24/11/2011 21:09

Elizabeth is lovely, such a functional name tooSmile

flopsy1974 · 25/11/2011 13:47

Love Elizabeth, such great nicknames you can use. Sounds lovely with William.

NewsClippings · 25/11/2011 14:59

It's fine - nice classic names.

ColourMeWithChaos · 25/11/2011 15:56

Love Elizabeth! If I ever had/have a DD she will be called Elizabeth!

first1 · 25/11/2011 16:30

My friend has recently had twins William and Martha which I think sounds lovely. Elizabeth is lovely too though!

Montsti · 25/11/2011 16:34

Think Elizabeth goes very well with William. Do think Catherine would be a little bit much unfortunately as otherwise goes well with William...

lizzieloubee1 · 25/11/2011 16:43

Love it, but I'm probably biased. Only slight problem is that the little girl in Just William is called Violet Elizabeth. But it's a tiny link, much less than Catherine/William.

MitrochondrialEve · 25/11/2011 18:28

Elizabeth goes extremely well with William, and it doesn't immediately sound regal to me. Catherine with William would though at the moment.

Plenty of nn possibilities, but I think both William and Elizabeth are lovely as full-length names. Go for it!

comedaygoday · 25/11/2011 18:45

It's a lovely name and goes well with.William.

jicky · 25/11/2011 18:54

I'm an Elizabeth, with an older brother called William. So I would say works quite well!

Lots of nick names for both names.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 25/11/2011 18:56

I know an Elizabeth and William combo, think they sound good togetehr

HappyCamel · 25/11/2011 19:12

Sound perfect to me

MaggieAtwood · 25/11/2011 19:26

I think they sound great together - timeless classics.

I always think Beatrice is a nice alternative to Elizabeth but again it is quite royal.

Giselle99 · 26/11/2011 10:21

Elizabeth is fine. The queen isn't really known by her first name, so the royal connection isn't as obvious as William and Catherine.

mumzy · 27/11/2011 23:31

Does remind me of just William and Violet Elizabeth !

Papyrus · 28/11/2011 00:43

Yes I was going to say they made me think of Just William - not a bad thing, it made me smile Grin.

My DD1 is Elizabeth and it is a wonderful versatile name. She is eight now and known as Eliza, but has gone through stages of calling herself Elsa instead. As a baby we called her Elsie; there are so many different nicknames to choose!

PercyFilth · 28/11/2011 12:36

If you like Catherine best, I see no reason not to choose it.

Both William and Catherine have a host of nicknames, and their friends might call them, for instance, Billy and Cathy. So I don't think it's inevitable that people will associate them with the royal couple. And it's not as if either of these names is unusual, I mean it's not like Elvis and Priscilla, is it.

Plus they are individuals. They may be brother and sister, but they won't be glued together all their lives.

pilates · 28/11/2011 13:08

Thumbs up from me, love the nicknames you can have too.

ScotFree · 20/12/2011 21:13

Elizabeth is lovely with William, two good strong names. You can't go wrong.

guinealady · 21/12/2011 11:04

I love both names, cannot use either as William doesn't go with OH's surname and Elizabeth is too close to another family name - it's a middle name contender for me, though. Wish I could call a boy William but it just won't work with the surname!
