Alfie - too faddy?

ColourMeWithChaos · 20/11/2011 01:08

Am currently 34 weeks with DS7 and the only name me and DH can agree on is Alfie (maybe Alfred).
Do you think its a bit faddy? It does seem to be quite popular here at the moment Middle names would probably be Richard Samuel.
Our other DCs are called:
Henry (Harry)
Johnathan (Jack)
William (Will)
Alexander (Alex)
Thomas (Tom)
George (currently called Goo!)

Any other suggestions - we like quite classic names that will age well and work whatever the boys decide to be. Am just a bit worried Alfie will become dated quite quickly!

We have an Alfred. It was my Grandad's name. He is the only child with that name in his pre-school class. And yes, we do call him Alfie and it really suits him, but we also call him Alf too.

If we ever have another boy then he will be Felix.

I don't get all this 'backlash' business against names though?

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 25/11/2011 01:24

It means that when a name is very popular, as with anything that is very fashionable, when it goes out of favour it does so with a bang.

Backlash names...

Kevin
Tracy
Sharon
Brian
Etc... (apols to any of the above)

It doesn't matter a jot if you love the name you've chosen. End of the day, that is all that matters. This is just why some people are keen, though, to avoid names which are really popular or faddy. Everyone's likes and priorities for their children's name/s are different.

Thank you for all your opinions, am now 35 weeks and it all seems to be going rather quickly at the moment!

Me and DH have finally decided on a name:

Edward Richard Samuel

(Richard is my brother in law and Samuel is my DH's best friend)

Lets just hope the bump looks like an Edward now!

(By the way decided not to go with Alfie because we were worried about it dating and we thought that it was better not to have two DCs with the same initial)

Yay! I have an Edward, and he's the only one I know round our way. I've been quite firm ... No eddie or teddie nn's - but we'll see what happens in a couple of years when he starts school, I guess ...

MaggieAtwood · 25/11/2011 19:28

I agree - it is quite faddy. How about Albert nn Bertie instead? (sorry if this has already been suggested - not read all of thread).

changer22 · 25/11/2011 20:11

Yay! My choice! Wink I was going to be Edward back in the early 70s so clearly not an of-the-moment name either.

Enjoy the next 5 or thereabouts weeks.

I know it has been a long time since I last posted, but I thought you may like to know that I gave birth to Edward Richard Samuel on the 28th December 2011 at 11.45 am. He weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces :). He is currently being called Tedward by the boys and Edward or Ted by me and DH. It has been a tough few months because of various other things but we really feel like we chose the right name for him!

Thank you all!

Albion the coolest name if you want cool.

deste · 13/03/2012 21:03

That should have read Alvin.

PercyFilth · 13/03/2012 21:25

No, should have read previous post Wink

TheMerchantOfVenom · 14/03/2012 00:34

Congratulations, Colour - that' lovely news!

deste - read the thread. :)

3boysandagirl · 14/03/2012 10:46

Edward is lovely, where I live Alfie is very popular. It's not a name I'm particularly keen on.

3boysandagirl · 14/03/2012 10:47

Congratulations to!

squoosh · 14/03/2012 10:54

How did Alfie become sooo popular? Was it due to the great acting talent of our generation Shane Ritchie, and his mindblowing portrayal of the deep and complex character of Alfie Moon on Eastenders?

Minty82 · 14/03/2012 13:15

Wow, congratulations!

CheerfulYank · 14/03/2012 16:12

Ah, that's lovely Chaos! Congrats!

oikopolis · 14/03/2012 17:34

Alfred's great. Alfie is faddy as hell.

Anonymumous · 14/03/2012 18:50

Congratulations to OP! I have enjoyed reading this thread, largely because DS2's middle name is Alfred and my best friend has always insisted that he will be teased relentlessly at school when he is older when people find out. Confused Clearly she is the out-of-touch one, and not me!

ColourMeWithChaos · 14/03/2012 21:59

Thank you for all the congratulations!

Anonymumous if we didn't already have a DS with an A initial then DS7 would most definitely have been Alfred. It is just such a cool name!
