Is Felix a bit trendy and fashionable now? I used to adore it and always said it would be my son's name. Fast forward 10 years and I'm not so sure about it.

Personally, I love the name Felix. Trendy or fashionable or dated - I love it.

Montsti · 18/11/2011 14:29

It's seems to be quite popular (not sure how many people actually use it) on here (but not ridiculously so) but so are lots of names. If I were you I would go for it as you love the name and better to have a name you love than compromising because of popularity as names come and go so all could change in a few years!

othersideofchannel · 18/11/2011 14:42

I think the cat food association will put some people off.

Towndon · 18/11/2011 16:24

I don't think it's too "trendy", it's a classic Biblical name.

3isamagicnumber · 18/11/2011 17:40

I agree with othersideofchannel - the name just makes me think 'cat'! Sorry!

Towndon · 18/11/2011 17:44

Cat food - bleurgh.

But the original Felix The Cat is very cool - black and white cartoon character from the silent film era :)

Felix does sound a bit like feline but actually means happiness.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/11/2011 17:44

Is Felix in the Bible ???? Really???

I think the cat food associations are too popular now.

Yes, Felix appears in the book of Acts. He was governor of Judea.

tammytoby · 18/11/2011 18:20

Anyone who owns a cat will come across and probably by Felix Cat Food, so there is a strong cat association imo.

emmyloo2 · 20/11/2011 07:08

I do love this name although agree it is almost too trendy, too try hard. But I am still keeping it on my list for DS2 should I ever have one.

What about Fergus?

ViviPru · 20/11/2011 14:19

I have a Felix he is 17 and loves his name, it also works worldwide!

RillaBlythe · 21/11/2011 04:02

Popular in East Dulwich I'd guess!

Catsycat · 21/11/2011 09:28

I will always think of Felix as a cat's name. I believe this association in a lot of people's minds comes from the Latin name for cat (Felis Catus), hence Felix the cat and Felix cat chunks (boak!).

BTW, not strictly relevant here, but I always think Rufus is a dogs name, though not sure why in this case. There are two brothers I have recently come across who are called Felix and Rufus, and this always amuses me. (Sorry, I know that's mean!).

At the end of the day, if you love the name, then use it - it's your opinion that counts, not the opinion of a faceless internet stranger :).

LePruneDeMaTante · 21/11/2011 09:43

I like it but I know three of them. It's very 'works for a bank, but not in a bank' round our way.
