There were plenty when I was at school. But I do not know of any little Katherines / Catherines.
Although I know a couple of kate's / Katies. But Katie is their full name and not a nick name for Katherine.

So how popular is it?

I don't know any atm among preschool children. I think it is a lovely name and is on our longish shortlist for DC3 due in Feb if it is a girl.

lucysnowe · 15/11/2011 15:26

Not very but I think what with us maybe having a Queen Catherine one day it is about to go boom...

BeattieBow · 15/11/2011 15:26

I really like this name too. I looked at the 2010 stats and Katy/Katie are failry popular, but Catherine and its variants less so. I know a few Kitty's too. I would like to call my Catherine Kitty or Kit I think.

sorry not very helpful.

I don't know any little Catherines/Katherines. It's a pretty name with good nickname potential. I like Kate, Katie, Cathy, personally not keen on Kitty though.

I love this name. If DS had been a girl, he would have been Katherine.
I know a 2 yr old Kate, but that's her full name.

Letchlady · 15/11/2011 22:16

My DD is a Katherine (kitty). She is one of two Katherines in her school, the only Kitty though.

School has 200+ children.

When we named her, no-one used the name. It does seem on the rise in the past few years thoughSad.

Love it but reckon Kate middleton effect will happen soon

Catherine (with a c) is lovely - classic and timeless.

I honestly don't think Kate Middletone will cause any more than a minor blip, if that, in its popularity.

TidyDancer · 17/11/2011 17:12

I know one baby Catherine, but that's it. I don't think the Kate Middleton thing has really taken hold (yet).

I think it is a beautiful, classic and timeless name. I do know a lot of little Kates and a few Katies and Kittys but no little Catherines/Katherines...it probably will get more popular but as it is a classic personally I wouldn't worry too much as it certainly isn't faddy..

NightLark · 26/11/2011 07:01

I have a 2 year old Katherine. She is the only little one with her name who I know. There have been none in DS's reception or y1 classes.

AwomancalledHorse · 26/11/2011 07:03

I knew 3 in Primary school (late 90's) and haven't met another one since.

We're probably going for Katherine if we have a girl....don't like the Kathryn/Cathryn spelling I've seen in a few baby books.

FirstNoelle · 27/11/2011 10:07

I know lots of teenagers called Katherine/Catherine/Katie, and I think Ms Middleton means it will remain popular for this generation.

It's a lovely name.

Panzee · 27/11/2011 10:08

If it is popular it is because it is a lovely name. Use it if you like it.
