DS should arrive any day and we need a name!

DS3 is due to make an appearance any day now, but our names list is still veeery long! And we can't particularly image using any of the names on our list (although that might change when he arrives). I'll put our long list below and any opinions and further suggestions would be great!

Graham (nn Gray although I think I'm alone on this one!)
Marcus
Hugo
Carey (although unisex is it too girly now?)
Colin (wouldn't realistically use but I love it Blush)
Alexander (Sandy or Ali)

DS1 is Dominic and DS2 Christopher (Kit)
As you can probably tell we have no particular 'style'!

From you list, I think Marcus, Hugo and Alexander are wonderful names and would sit nicely with your other DCs.

Some other ideas: Ferdinand, Angus, Edmond, Michael, Aidan?

A1980 · 12/11/2011 23:12

Alexander is my favourite from your list.

Conrad is a nice name from my own list.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/11/2011 23:22

I don't think any of the ones you've listed are as nice as your ds' names or really 'go' with them tbh. Marcus probably sounds best with them imho.

Other ideas -

Dominic, Kit and Laurence/Laurie
Dominic, Kit and Barnaby/Barney
Dominic, Kit and Timothy/Tim
Dominic, Kit and Bartholomew/Bartie
Dominic, Kit and Matthew/Matt
Dominic, Kit and Lucas
Dominic, Kit and Simon

Towndon · 12/11/2011 23:47

I'd tone down Marcus and Hugo to Mark and Hugh.

Carey is an ex-Archbishop's surname, and possibly a girls' name.

Alexander is very nice but I'd go for Alex as nickname. Sandy/Ali sound feminine (Sandra/Alison) and a bit try-hard compared to Alex.

Colin and Graham are dated and not due a comeback yet IMHO.

BerylStreep · 13/11/2011 00:06

I like them all, but Marcus and Hugo stand out as being particularly nice.

My reserve name for the youngest I will never have is Miles. Love it.

Dominic, Kit & Miles.

?

BerylStreep · 13/11/2011 00:07

Actually, having reviewed your list, there is one which I really dislike - Colin.

Don't do it.

voodoobarbie · 13/11/2011 00:33

I prefer Marcus, dislike Colin and prefer Gray as opposed to Graham.

Dominic, Kit & Cohen, Mum from school just named her ds, bit similar to Carey.

BibiBelle · 13/11/2011 10:46

Hugo

I know a wee boy called Gray and always felt it was a shame to name such a charming/bright wee boy after such a dreary colour.

What about Corin?

please don't lumber him with Colin Grin I had millions in my class at school and I'm not old enough for it to be due a revival!!

FarAwayFromAnywhere · 13/11/2011 12:51

Do you think we could use Gray without a longer name? And regrettably Colin may have to come off the list :( I really do love it!

Please not Graham or Colin they are dreadful

Alexander is nice, so is Barnaby nn Barney.

Towndon · 13/11/2011 13:04

Grayson or Graydon?

SoupDragon · 13/11/2011 13:09

Marcus and Hugo are ones I like the most from your list.

I have a soft spot for Nathaniel/Nat/Nate

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/11/2011 15:50

I think Gray doesn't work, sorry. And Graydon is truly, truly dreadful imho.

freerangeeggs · 13/11/2011 18:27

A dental carey is a hole in your tooth, is it not? That's what fillings are for.

I think Hugo sounds great with Dominic and Kit.

Gray is socially acceptable but soooo dull. I'd suggest Grady but I don't think it's that nice.

Colin is a bit dated but it's okay. How about Callan or Orin? Aidan? Robin?

What other names do you like?

FarAwayFromAnywhere · 13/11/2011 18:49

freerange, names that I like but DH doesn't include Nicholas, Samuel, Jacob, Luke, Benjamin and Michael. Names he likes that I am indifferent to include Jesse, Zachary, Jared, Aiden and Toby. He also likes Ethan which I quite like.

Alexander works best with your sibset but I do love Hugo.

Are you in the UK or USA? Only reason I ask is that Wattenburg lists both Graham and Colin as 'English' names ie typically British from a US perspective. In actual fact both these names are very 60's/70's and rarely used in the UK today for babies. She says that Graham floats "on a cloud of refinement" which always makes me chuckle because nothing could be further from the truth if you do actually live in the UK.

Marcus is a lovely name but doesn't sit as well with Dominic and Christopher. Carey as you say is too Jim and quite feminine next to his 'manly' brothers.

Corin has already been suggested which I prefer as an alternative to Colin and I adore Conrad (also suggested) too.

Other typically Bristish names (imo) are Barnaby, Oliver, Sebastian, Tristan which may fit the bill if that's the feel you are after.

Good luck

FarAwayFromAnywhere · 13/11/2011 21:03

Haha we are in England, and sadly it is becoming evident that Colin isn't an option :(

DigOfTheStump · 13/11/2011 21:24

Simon for me

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/11/2011 21:53

Love Luke and it sounds good with the other names too.

FarAwayFromAnywhere · 15/11/2011 18:41

Just to let you all know that yesterday Lawrence Alexander Colin arrives safe and sound, and DH let me put Colin in the name :o

Towndon · 15/11/2011 18:52

BerylStreep · 17/11/2011 22:30

Congratulations!
