Starting to TTC again for #2... finally! (Well, DD is only 14 months, but have been wanting to for a while... bf loads still so its been impossible so far, but mother nature has come up trumps with a few afs in a row, so here we go...)

Ridiculously premature, but I love this...

We have a Matilda. Surname begins with G and is 2 syllables (which has aimpact on one of the names...)

Honest opinions and/or suggestions!

Valentina
Greta (is the surname an issue...?)
Esther
Tabitha
Harriet (nn Hetty)
Cosima
Alice

William
Sebastian
Arthur
Frederick
Bryn (but we're in no way Welsh, so may be not..?)

I LOVE Beatrix (DD's second choice name) and Felix, but xclose friends have just used both.

DH is unherlpful. He likes Sappho for a girl............

Thanks!

Also, what great names haven't I thought of....?

Valentina (possibly too "foreign" with Matilda..) and Harriet are my favourites from your list.

Love William, Sebastian and Frederick! Arthur also goes well with Matilda. Not keen on Bryn though...

legallyblond · 11/11/2011 09:46

Thanks!

DH also likes Artemis (for a girl) and Hestia. I should have included them I suppose, but reluctant too... everyone may adore them!!!

The only ones I'm not keen on are Greta because of the alliteration, Esther because my friend's ex has always been know as Esther the Molester and now I can't hear the name without thinking of her and Bryn and Sebastian because of name association.

Every other name is lovely. Which is your favourite and which is DH's?

Congratulations too Smile

I am assuming your surname is Greenway or something to make it sound like Gretna Green. If so, I would give Greta a miss, although it is lovely.
I like Matilda and Alice or Matilda and William. I think they give the impression of a lovely classic sibset, whereas Matilda and Arthur would sound really trendy (if that makes sense to anyone but me Grin )
Matilda and Valentina also lovely and would be my second choice.

legallyblond · 11/11/2011 10:02

No, no issue with Green. The issue is that it would be alliteration, like Greta Garbo!

I like Harriet and Alice and William, Arthur and Frederick.

tummytickler · 11/11/2011 10:30

Well, if it is alliteration, I think that leaves Greta in the running, as it can sound very cool indeed, depending on what your surname is.

pilates · 11/11/2011 11:28

Harriet and William are my favourites

legallyblond · 11/11/2011 11:40

I note no comments re Cosima.... DH's choice, but one that I actually like (but not as much as Harriet, Greta and Valentina).

Esther and Sebastian get my vote out of your shortlist!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/11/2011 17:33

Valentina - not over-fond
Greta (is the surname an issue...?) - nice but not with a G surname
Esther - nice but really love Hester
Tabitha - not fond
Harriet (nn Hetty) - lovely
Cosima - hate this name, sorry
Alice - lovely

William - like
Sebastian - like
Arthur - don't like
Frederick - like
Bryn - don't like

Some great names there! Sappho, imho, is truly terrible. Sorry!

Valentina - pretty but could be a hard name to wear if not a very girly girl. Might end up as Tina or Val which don't sound as nice

Greta (is the surname an issue...?) - I see the appeal of this one... pretty and a bit unusual. Has some old fashioned charm. I don't think the surname would be a big deal.

Esther - Always found it a bit stuffy and matronly... think Esther Ranson.

Tabitha - Okay but personally not really my thing

Harriet (nn Hetty) - Love Harriet. Hetty a bit twee but cute on a little one

Cosima - over the top

Alice - lovely classic

William - love it!

Sebastian - nice, good solid name

Arthur - really nice, like the old fashioned feel

Frederick - ditto Arthur, but I slightly prefer Arthur

Bryn (but we're in no way Welsh, so may be not..?) - I wouldn't be sure if male or female but that is probably just my ignorance...

Some more suggestions which you might like -

Eleanor
Leonora
Imogen
Thalia
Genevieve
Daria
Annelise
Johanna

Alistair
Miles
Gideon
Louis

how about Hester nn Hetty?

pixiestix · 12/11/2011 12:18

I think your DH's suggestions of Artemis and Hestia are really nice! Although personally I would give Cosima and Sappho a wide berth.

Of your list, I'm liking Alice and Frederick - although all your boys names are pretty great imo Grin

pixiestix · 12/11/2011 12:19

yy to Hester - a really pretty, under-used name.
