I can't decide.

Ingrid. Definitely. Simone sounds moany.

fargate · 07/11/2011 08:36

I like both a lot - although I do know a Simone who isn't a nice person which would deter me from using it.

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 07/11/2011 08:37

I think they're both nice.

I think there are probably more ingrids than simones atm, so if that's a consideration for you, maybe simone.

ImpYCelyn · 07/11/2011 09:05

Ingrid.

AgathaPinchBottom · 07/11/2011 09:16

INGRID.

tummytickler · 07/11/2011 09:50

Ingrid!

Mackrelmint · 07/11/2011 10:29

And another one for Ingrid. Unless you are German; I think Simone sounds pretty pronounced the German way, but not so much the English way.

Rhubarbgarden · 07/11/2011 11:51

Just seen there's another thread on Simone and it comes off really badly! I didn't expect this to be so one way, how interesting. Glad I posted. As far as popularity goes, both names are outside the top 1000 in the ONS statistics, so I don't think either is about to do an Evie.

Simone is much more feminine. Ingrid sounds very harsh, I don't like it, sorry.

Towndon · 07/11/2011 15:20

Simone is much nicer.

Ingrid is horrible, really harsh. Why would anyone want to be in a grid?

Carlitawantsababy · 07/11/2011 17:28

I like Ingrid the best but don't dislike Simone, are they both really outside the top 1000 or do you mean 100? Smile

rachel234 · 07/11/2011 18:51

I prefer Simone, works well in German and French too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/11/2011 19:12

Like Ingrid; hate Simone.

Rhubarbgarden · 07/11/2011 20:11

Carlita Ingrid is no. 1470 and Simone no. 1389.

Interesting that German has been mentioned a couple of times; she (if indeed she is a she!) will be half Dutch so we are specifically looking for a name that works in both languages, and with a long faffy surname prefixed by 'van' poor child.

Both lovely, but Ingrid gets my voteSmile

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 08/11/2011 02:05

I like both of them - 50:50 for me. Nice choice of names, outside the usual -elle/ella, ie/y, a ending names.

alarkaspree · 08/11/2011 03:42

I like Ingrid, but love Simone.

Carlitawantsababy · 08/11/2011 08:01

Wow rhubarb they are good then, thought they'd be more popular than that (but maybe just because I like them!)

AfricanExport · 08/11/2011 08:10

I'm not fond of Ingrid. Find it to be a very harsh name for a girl so only like it with a more gentrel common surname. I would definitely go with Simone.

And definitely if it is going with a 'Van ......' surname I think that would make the name even harsher. Simone is easier on the ear with a Van surname (I am a Saffa so have some Van surname experience :) )

birdofthenorth · 08/11/2011 09:31

Simone is lovely an underused. Ingrid is classy but harsh sounding.

AfricanExport · 08/11/2011 09:50

That would be gentle and common (not as in COMMON) but common as in lots of people have that surname.
It looked terrible when I read it back......

Rhubarbgarden · 08/11/2011 13:48

Ha ha don't worry I knew what you meant Africanexport! Smile.

More mixed views now. Tricky!
