What do you think of Stanley?

Is it getting trendy like Alfie and Harvey?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I don't think so and personally wouldn't group it with those names...definitely more popular than it was say 5 years ago but that's not a bad thing.

I never used to like it but it's grown on me and I now think it's a lovely name.

mummykubrick · 05/11/2011 16:14

I have a 5yo Stanley Smile. It's more common than it was, it was 120 or so in the charts when he was born, now I think it's the 90th most popular (or something).

I know another 3 locally. I don't think it will get really popular as a lot of people can't stand it (not a bad thing IMO).

Flat cap and whippets. Still.

It might come back but won't do so in such a vulgar way as Alfie and Harvey. I can't see anyone on 'enders calling their baby Stanley yet, put it that way.

tummytickler · 05/11/2011 16:34

Trendy I would say. Ds has two in his class at school there is at least one more in the school (of 150 or so) and I know a couple of toddlers too.
I am not keen on it. I like some old man names, but this, along with Archie,Alfie,Freddie has never appealed to me.
How about Albert, Gregory, Marmaduke, Quentin, Monty?

Towndon · 05/11/2011 16:43

Stanley knife.

I like Sidney though.

LaFilleSurLePont · 05/11/2011 16:51

It seems to be fairly popular on MN. I can't understand why as I think it's a horrible name.

melliebobs · 05/11/2011 16:55

i love the name, I'm expecting DC1 in feb and Stanley is on our boys name list along with Silas, Jesse, Arlo and Dexter. I do have visions of it popping out complete with flat cap, pipe, whippet and loaf of hovis under its arm but even so. LOVE IT!

Rhubarbgarden · 06/11/2011 08:34

Nice name but very trendy round here. I doubt it will reach the heights of Alfie though.

MelinaM · 06/11/2011 10:57

Yes it is a trendy name like Alfie, Archie et al ...but I love it!

SandStorm · 06/11/2011 10:59

As long as you don't call any future brother Oliver.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 06/11/2011 11:07

I love it, really love it and would use it if dd2 is in fact ds1 :)

sonniebonnie · 06/11/2011 22:22

I know two little Stanleys under age 5, so yes it seems to become quite popular. I'm not keen personally.

nicknamenotinuse · 07/11/2011 06:44

I don't like it, sorry, I don't like Stan either but I don't like any of the names from the Alfie, Harvey type family. Sorry :o(

nicknamenotinuse · 07/11/2011 06:44

sorry was meant to have a Sad face after it, not a big grin. sorry again!

phlossie · 07/11/2011 15:35

I love it. I know two Stanleys, one 2 year old and one at DS's school (6yo).

I have been teaching swimming to more than a hundred babies a week for the last 2 years and haven't taught a single Stanley yet. I have taught loads of Henrys, Georges, Alfies, Archies, Dylans, Harrys etc...

3isamagicnumber · 07/11/2011 16:30

I only know one Stanley - and thats a dog!
Sorry!

tammytoby · 09/11/2011 11:40

It's ok but seems to be becoming more trendy, perhaps not quite as much as Alfie, Archie et al (yet?).

canistartagainplease · 09/11/2011 12:01

Love the name, old english (stone meadow).
Go for it. Stan sounds like a "go to" kind of guy!

kblu · 09/11/2011 12:04

Love it. Wanted to call my ds it three years ago but couldn't persuade dh.
