Juliet not Rae.

Kate, Phoebe or Florence

thirtysomething · 30/10/2011 19:17

Esther Rae sounds nicest, followed by Kate, Eva or Florence. Not keen on Autumn or Hera - can't imagine a 50-yr old called Autumn and I think Hera will be subjected to all sorts of "come over hera" style jokes!

ShesAStar · 30/10/2011 19:33

I know a little girl called Autumn and I really love it. Would it matter to you if she wasn't born in Autumn? I might have wanted it but DD will be born in Winter so wasn't sure!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 30/10/2011 19:42

Nope not really, I just like the name (our other hippy style name was River but we've been talked out of that one)...we're moving to America when she'll be 2 months old anyway so out there at least it'll just be a name and not a season

Well, personally I'd go with that one then. I think its gorgeous.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 30/10/2011 19:46

so pleased someone finally likes it!

Esther Rae

MerryMarigold · 30/10/2011 19:56

2 considerations with Autumn:

Am interested, do you have a nn for Autumn, or would it be full name all the way? (I can't think of a nice, babyish diminutive!)

Do you mind American pronounciation of Autumn as it's very different whereas not so different on Phoebe or Esther? May be a consideration with other names too - say them all 'American' and see if you still like them!

ChippingInAutumnLover · 30/10/2011 20:02

Eva - over used
Hera - no
Autumn - no
Kate - yes
Esther - old lady
Phoebe - a new little MNjunior arrived with that name yesterday!! But wouldn't choose it myself
Florence - making a huge comeback
Maggie - Simpsons! But if you do, please discard Rae as a middle name!

How long do you think you'll be in the states for? Maybe something a little more American?

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 30/10/2011 20:07

hmmmm, have been thinking about that and I guess not overlly bothered - we'll probably be there for about 3years so as long as we and her brother say her name "properly" her accent should disappear quickly once we're home again!

OP posts:
GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 30/10/2011 20:07

oh god I definately don't want an American name!!

OP posts:
MerryMarigold · 30/10/2011 20:10

What is an American name anyway? Courteney?

ThePathanKhansWitch · 30/10/2011 20:14

Esther, beautiful name.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 30/10/2011 22:30

yeah not sure - britney?!

To be honest at this stage I doubt we'll be able to add any other names to the list, this one has been building for about 5years!

Seems like Esther is still the front runner, Florence and Eva may well be sidelined thanks to the MN surge in popularity! I still love Kate (and def not going to use a longer form) but umming about Autumn too, and Phoebe comes and goes for both of us so we might have it shortened:

Esther Rae
Kate Juliet
Hera Juliet
Maggie Rae or Juliet?

good, that feels better! A long list is slightly daunting

Love Esther and Hera, and Kate has a lot going for it too, but Maggie I can't wrap my head around as a stand alone name.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 31/10/2011 08:42

I guess it's because the two Maggie's I know are just Maggie, not short for anything, and I really don't like Margaret or Margot!

Love Eva Rae...

NadiaWadia · 31/10/2011 14:03

How do Americans say 'Autumn' then?

mathanxiety · 31/10/2011 14:15

Ahh-dom = Autumn

mathanxiety · 31/10/2011 14:16

But they use the word 'Fall' for the season.

dearheart · 31/10/2011 19:36

Eva - no
Hera - maybe
Autumn - no
Kate - love it, but would avoid now thanks to HRH connection
Esther - I like this, but when I was pg I thought it a dreadful name for some reason. Esther Rae sounds like a 50s film starlet (which is a good thing)
Phoebe - I love this
Florence - like it

Esther Rae gets my vote

MerryMarigold · 01/11/2011 13:39

Esther Rae. Cool.

Maggie short for Marigold...PLEEEEASE.

Towndon · 01/11/2011 18:00

How about Esther Juliet?
